Post subject:  If the classic albums were released today

With modern sounding albums stinging my ears with the same production jobs repetitively, what would happen if venerated metal classics were released in the 21st century? What would happen if Darkthrone released Transilvanian Hunger to ears accustomed to Watain, or if other classic bands released their seminal albums to another generation? Would they find themselves competing with an entirely different metal landscape, or would they find themselves inaccessible as they did to the mainstream of the 80's/early nineties?

I tried imagining Killers (1981, Iron Maiden) with a typical 00's PM production. The horror!

They'd probably get called retro or whatnot.

If transilvanian hunger came out today no one would listen to it.

I don't think so. Things have to move forward, especially when dealing with people that are always looking for everything they like but just a little more of it.

Mindcrime would probably be regarded as a a middle of the road Power/Prog release. You cant take certain forms of music to their densest extremes and ask someone to care about a band with much less going on and less attention drawn to what makes them unique.
