Whatever respective factors that contribute to solidifying a lineup, most regrettably there is always a band that should be playing above another. Whether it's due to label pressure, venue location, fanbase appeal, or just greedy promoters, what are some of the botched lineups you've seen where a great band played second fiddle to a lesser band?

Killing Joke supporting Motley Crue was one such travesty. Cannibal Corpse supporting Children Of Bodom another.

Moonsorrow at Paganfest. They had to play before Eluveitie (I could live with that) and Korpiklaani (who absolutely suck major ass in a live setting).

I saw Korpliklaani at wacken .. and I thought they were very entertaining .. much better than their albums.

Bleh. That is infuriating. Two bands that make a joke of a genre (note, I am not saying either is bad) playing after the masters.

I guess it mostly depends on their mood. At Paganfest they were clearly bored and just went through the motions.

Enslaved should be touring with Negura Bunget. Although, they are coming to Calgary with Alcest so that's a relief.

I don't agree with this at all. It's not like they were the first band to play on that tour either. Enslaved was the 3rd band to play out of the 4 bands on the tour. Both are great bands and definitely bands that should be touring each other. Dimmu is definitely the better band for me live though, Enslaved is still very quality though.

Husker, Dimmu better than Enslaved, really? Really? Whatever we all think of their modern stuff (and anything off Axioma kicks Gateways into outer fucking space) Vikingligr Veldi absolutely destroys For All Tid. No contest.

*is drunk and is pretending Husker didn't say better live*

I will agree with you that Vikingligr Veldi is better than For All Tid but for all tid is still a great album, horrible production on the vocals though, some of the screams are ear piercing and it could have been done better (on For all Tid.)

I personally love when I get to see Enslaved and Dimmu on the same bill though, I just enjoyed Dimmu's set a lot more than Enslaved's. Dimmu is just more my style but then again I haven't listened to Enslaved as much as Dimmu. Dimmu's music is just more headbanging than Enslaved's and when I go to a heavy metal show I want to be banging my head.

And the last Dimmu album was called Abrahadabra not Gateways, Gateways was just the single. Shows how much you know, drunken bastard! You don't even go to concerts so how the fuck do you know!? Haha. :dio:

Did I say Gateways was an album? Nope. All this was based on a joke around the fact I gave a Dimmu DVD quite a good review, but apparently no-one noticed so I should have stayed quiet! Oh well. Enslaved still >>>> though.

Enslaved's music is far above and beyond Dimmu's music by any measure of the observer's understanding. The comparison is ludicrous.

Reminds me of the first concert I ever went to when I saw Mnemic, Hypocrisy, Dark Tranquillity, and Soilwork.

Hypocrisy was my favorite band on the bill but they played 2nd out of the 4. Definitely the best band out of all of them though.

Most definitely. Have you bought your tickets for the Enslaved/Alcest show?

Just about any band in metal is far above Dimmu's music.

I'd say that's an unreasonable and simplistic statement. But Dimmu Borgir is a band that gets listens every three years, if that! So for me, they're a very insignificant band.

This seems to happen to Dark Tranquility all the time, the most egregious offense being when they opened for Devil Wears Prada. I don't even know, man.
