The epic choirs of metal are used in varying degrees of utilization, whether its epic moments utilized by Dimmu's latest or chants reminiscent of the crusades in Hollenthon's music. What are your favorite choir/orchestral arrangements in metal? How do they mix with the riffing, and most importantly how do they convey the atmospheric of whatever respective subgenres they operate in?

Dimmu Borgir are really good at that kinda thing. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon come to mind.

Queen's not metal, the thread is about Orchestral Arrangements in Metal. Good song, nevertheless.

Queen is more metal than all those flowery pm bands, of which I like some, that is not the question. Anyway, if only for its influence on choral (operatic) vocals use in rock music, this one was worth mentioning.

I really gotta check that one out. I remember listening to that song everyone was raving about, and it was pretty sick. :dio:

Hollenthon and Septicflesh are prolly the best. I don't even like orchestral shit in metal but I love those bands. I think orchestration is more fitting when it is done with an orchestral mindset, and adding metal elements to it, than the other way around.

The already mentioned Therion, SepticFlesh and also Hollenthon although I don't like their music that much. Haggard comes to mind but they are more chamber music than being orchestrated. I have to look through my collection to see if I can find more symphonic or better to say orchestrated stuff that I don't recall at the moment.
