I had a degree of difficulty encapsulating the title for this thread, but what are some bands that you believe are products of a certain era of their albums that you have a difficult time enjoying their other albums. Case in point for me Tiamat's experimental albums compared to their death metal, or for other possible In Flames's melodic death compared to their 30 seconds to Mars tribute shit. What clear sound defines this era of their albums, and why do you prefer it to a latter or earlier area in their music?

The band that immediately jumps to my mind is Queensryche. They are praised for their 80's output, but anything post Empire generally gets dismissed or hated on. I have enjoyed some of their works recently, but no band is more polarized by their respective periods of work than Queensryche, not even Metallica.

Yep, the Reyche are gonna win this thread without breaking a sweat. I can't think of any band to come even close, from this perspective.

What about Metallica? People always refer to their thrash albums as their classic era and everything that came after is either despised or mocked... up to Death Magnetic when they came back to their alleged "signature sound".
I think they fit the bill nicely too.

It seems like most popular Thrash bands went through this.

Metallica and Megadeth trying to be "radio friendly"(?)
Slayer's mid 90s to 2000s work (as far as I understand it)
Anthrax without Belladonna (Apparently there is a big schism between fans of the Bush era vs. the Belladonna era)
