Out of curiosity, how many more metal shows do you see compared to other genres or vice versa.

I've barely seen any metal shows because the Bay Area has absolutely no places for bands to play that aren't clubs for 21+, and very little places actually have all ages shows these days (the most recent being Eyehategod in Oakland yesterday).

I've grown up with a lot of Blues influence and I can't even count how many small festivals and gigs I've seen over the years, all mostly because whatever goes on in the area happens to be a bunch of guys getting together and jamming.

How about you guys?

Seeing Mayhem live trumps life itself.

Metal shows are too loud and usually go past my bedtime, so I only go to them if I really like the band, and not that many bands I really like come here, so I haven't been to many metal shows. I think most of the live music I've seen has been jazz.

I never really thought about it but I guess I do see a lot of live shows. Probably half and half.

So far in my concert-going career, I've seen predominately metal shows, with a smattering of punk, rap, rockabilly and general weirdness (Cartridge Family, Captured by Robots). I want to see more kinds of bands, though, because I love live music. Regardless of the genre being played, if it is performed well, I'm having a good time.

I would recommend some bluegrass. The right band playing some bluegrass with a dash of jazz fusion can't be beat for a good night out.

I saw a bunch of death metal between 2006-2008. Decapitated (with Covan and Vitek), Origin, Necrophagist, Skinless, Arsis x3, the Faceless, Abysmal Dawn, and the hordes of deathcore bands that tour with them. I've also seen Dragonforce and Between the Buried and Me. The cool thing was that I didn't see any of these bands at a festival, it was at a small, shitty club downtown.

As far as non-metal, I've seen my brother play in his blues band that is taking off here in Tennessee...

I went to a lot of shows (1 to 5 a week for 1989/1994, mostly metal and hardcore) in the 80s and the 90s. Now, I go to about 10 shows a year of which almost none are metal.

I've seen a lot more rock gigs (bands similar in style to Hellacopters) than metal due to there being more rock ones locally.

These day's it's 1-2 metal gigs a year, 1-2 general music gigs and 1-2 classical concerts.

Though this year has been a disaster musically - haven't seen anything. I was meant to go see Nevermore but they broke up.

It's difficult to go to concerts when you have to get on a plane to see them.
