I have to say that prior to hearing Xerath I wasn't quite sure how interesting groove metal could be. While you have different ideas on what constitutes a good 'groove' and hook, the notion that a good band can exist in an otherwise questionable genre isn't terribly farfetched. What are some bands in subgenres that are normally maligned that if not being a beacon, at least produce music that is worth listening too? Are there any other bands that follow suit with their contemporaries, or are they literally just one band in a cesspool?

umm alive or breathing by killswitch engage is the only good melodic metalcore album the rest is all atreyu ripoffs or over preoduced emo crap being sold of as metal

I think L.D. 50 is one of the very few Nu Metal albums held in high regard by metalheads. On bass forums at least....

I love that album. Defiantely the best Nu Metal has to offer.

Mudvayne were hands down the best Nu Metal band because I could sit through their songs without wanting to throw up.

Slipknot with Iowa and System Of A Down with their parts of their self titled debut showed some glimmer of hope for Nu-Metal.

Rage Against The Machine did the same for rap rock with their first album.

Both RATM and SOAD in the end proved to be pseudo-Marxist garbage whose song writing progressively degraded from album to album and became more repetitive and inane.

Sliknot stayed tolerable - given their DM influence that kinda makes sense. Their first album Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat displayed these DM influences a bit more (though it was shit).

I'd also like to see Slipknot live - they look they'd be a lot of fun on stage.

I can agree with all the bands you've mentioned.
I've seen Slipknot live two times now I think. They were good but not exactly "fun". I think their live show was a lot better and more crazy ten years ago.

RATM and SOAD were ever not Marxist? And I disagree re Slipknot still being tolerable. They swapped interesting drum n'bass-influenced songwriting for crappy neo-hardcore catchiness.

Always were, my friend. And they still sucked. Both of them. Utter trash.

Weakling are the reason I sometimes try listening to other black metal bands.

I'm fine with some of RATM's stuff, but most of it is boring garbage.
Dunno why Morello is seen as the "greatest sonic experimentalist" when The Melvins were doing it years before all the cool kids caught on and his stuff being pretty bland anyway.

Also I can only see them being pseudo-Marxist socialist whatever because they were making the big bucks and I'm not sure on how much they used the money for personal pleasure and so on.
