Post subject: | Your Ideal Music State |
What would be your ideal music? Metal or otherwise. What sort of emotions define your musical taste in the ideal state of mind as you have progressed in life and have gotten to know yourself a bit better by each and every year. In other words--is there a dominant mood--that defines your musical state? It being melancholic, spiritual, sinister, dark, or merely aggressive, fast, and brutal for a more typical ideal of music in Metal, at least. Do you really have an ideal "state" to even begin with? I suppose you could relate that notion to the evolution (progression) of your musical taste throughout your musical history. |

Well, the forums have been kind of boring since Steve left anyway. He was the one that came up with all the interesting topics and other times over-the-top ones. I am the reincarnation of Steve! Although, I personally think it's an important question to answer ![]() |

Insulting others for their taste in music, Leaving a user score of "0" on every review that falls into a genre he doesn't like (typically mine, since he hates power metal), and referring to Zad as "mein fuhrer" didn't amuse me in the least. |

Sorry For the De-rail, back on topic... To me i like a combination of growls/screams with some clean singing thats also melodic/symphonic/progressive and has strong lyrics behind them. |

So you must like Therion's Sirius and Lemuria B and also the band Haggard. Although Therion is much more sophisticated in of terms their blending of Classical and Metal. |

Sweet, sweet riffs and emotional vocals, whether that be furious like JR Hayes or melancholic like Stainthorpe's of MDB or intense like Pucciato's, I prefer plodding drums with epic build-ups and crescendos. Bass as twangy and audible as possible, TUI does this well. |

They banned Steve? Real shame. Guy was fun. My ideal music would be a cross between a number of bands to create the uberest frankenstein metal band ever: Iced Earth circa 1996-99 CROSS Bathory circa 1986-91 CROSS Venom circa 1980-83 CROSS Iron Maiden circa 1980-88 CROSS Carcass circa 1989-1995 CROSS Bolt Thrower CROSS Gorefest CROSS Kreator circa 1985-90 CROSS Atheist. It would be brutal, intense, aggressive, harsh, epic, groovey, emotional, raw and most of all riffy as hell. |

I don't think it's really possible for me to have an ideal music. I love rock and I love jazz, but I think that jazz with eletric instruments is an abomination. And that what I love about rock probably isn't possible without distortion. Closest would probably be something along the lines of Tool or The Mars Volta. Riffs that are weird but groovy, songs that are dramatic and (sometimes) lengthy but still catchy, vocals that are intense but still melodic and elegant, u kno. I think what Maynard has been doing recently - 10,000 Days and the last two Puscifer releases - are pretty close to my ideal music. Creative rhythms, catchy meodies, amazing singing, sometimes brooding and emotional, sometimes fun and exuberant. |

I was thinking about this, or something similar. I was thinking more along the lines of bands/genres I would like to exist but don't. I really want a band to mix quiet indie/folky (or even electronic) stuff with big catchy metal riffs for ridiculous crescendos. "Post metal" bands have made use of metal to create dynamics like this, but the metal parts are always more "wall of sound" stuff than actual fast and intense riffs, and the quiet parts are also generally brooding and atmospheric rather than fun or enjoyable. tl;dr i want an indie metal band I also want someone to take Mastodon's sound to its logical conclusion with a fully progged-the-fuck-out-Mars-Volta-jazz-fusion metal band. in b4 Cynic...want more sax, piano, and retro vibes rather than futuristic electronic jazz sound of Cynic. I love them too, just wish that sound existed as well. |

Hard to describe, really. I guess mine would be a mix of what Virus/DHG/And Oceans/Aborym does or did. |

Devastating, melancholic, yet hopeful. Glorious, yet not flamboyant. Melodic, yet not sacrificing in the mere fact of being solely catchy. Simple yet arrangements are complex, complex yet it seems simple at first listening. Technical, yet emotional and coherent. Dense, layered, chaotic, yet pertaining peaceful at times. Primordial yet sustaining the civilized and the sophistication. Raw, powerful and embedded with the utmost energy. The ability to transcend one to worlds beyond this earthly realm. The music that faces the cold companion of Death and strives to take one to the occult places of mystical dawns. The music that speaks to the immense nature of the human being; those reflections in the abyss that portray the inner-demons. |
