Doing some album recommending to my ladyfriend, thought I'd pick the hive mind. She's a Who fangirl, got her into Sabbath and Porcupine Tree, looking for more earcandy that's good music, not mainstream yet not anything horrific to unmetal ears (so obviously not looking for Cannibal Corpse clones here...)

The Gathering - How To Measure A Planet? and Opeth - Heritage is all I've come up with so far. All suggestions appreciated.

Ayreon - The Universal Migrator Part I & The Electric Castle. And The Human Equation. And the rest, basically... :)

The last Anubis Gate.

I get back to you.

Devin Townsend - Pick just about any album
Dio - Holy Diver
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here, Weather Systems, and Judgement
Leave's Eyes - Meredead

Some off the top of my head, some of these even worked on my wife.

XASTHUR!

Selectively, I think Ulver could work: Kveldssanger, Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Perdition City, Wars of the Roses and so on all have very different angles on sounds which she may like.

So I guess you're not gonna go with "She Was Asking For It"?

That neofolk compilation album, For Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings, came to mind.

Some wonderful suggestions, guys, cheers. Especially loving the Ulver, Anathema, Dio, and that Neofolk compilation, Devin T and Ayreon are good suggestions too. And how could I forget Rush?

Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell (what? Everyone likes that album.)
Evergrey - The Inner Circle

And I have noticed many times Di'Anno's era of Iron Maiden works with ladies (who are acquainted already with rock).

Also, I suppose suggesting Bathory's Hammerheart would be a no-no?

Just going by the quality of women I see at shows

- Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
- In Flames - Last couple of albums
- Cradle of Filth - ???
- Eluveitie
- I would try some female fronted gothic/power metal a la Epica or early Tristania
- Saw a lot of women at Arkona .. if she a Goddess type should love it

Other stuff I can think of
- Paradise Lost (is this mainstream?)
- Baroness
- some catchy stuff on the latest Mastodon
