In the time I've been posting here I recall Virgin Steele's Invictus being posted more times than other albums. It was just a few months ago that I heard some other songs off of House of Atreus pt I before I knew that I had fallen in love with this bands material. Fast forward a few weeks more and I won an auction for the oop Invictus and was absolutely floored by the intensity of the tempo, Defeis singing, and the beautiful keyboard layers that Defeis spent so much time on

What are some of the recent rediscoveries or discoveries you've made that have rejuvenated you to check out a bands work that you had previously not explored.

Virgin Steele owns everything. I remember the first listen I gave to Invictus, ages ago. It was in the middle of the night, in the dark... and then Defeis starts whispering the words in my ears. I was transported in ancient Greece. Epic as hell, one of the best musical experiences in my life.

To answer the question, Artillery, a year ago. I had listened to By Inheritance ten or twelve years ago, thought it was awesome then completely forgot about this band for some reason. And then, someday... Boom. Mind blown.

I'm always looking to find bands and artists I might have missed or overlooked. Lately, I've been on a King Crimson kick and, though I already knew the albums I owned (about half of the band's catalogue) was astonished by the sheer genius of Fripp and his companions on about everything I could "lay my ears on". And so, I bought all that I didn't already own, a move which was influenced mainly by three amazing albums: In the Court of the Crimson King, Red and Discipline. Actually, the whole of KC's works are worth checking even if those are considered their ultimate classics.

Uriah Heep. I was listening to Spotify radio this morning and they came on. I had never had a chance to check them out though I know how important a band they are, but I will now be fixing that mistake ASAP.

Just stuck some Theocracy on after a long period of Power Metal absence and am pleasantly surprised at how good they are, don't remember enjoying them this much last time I tried them...

Theocracy is pretty good indeed, As The World Bleeds and Mirror of Souls are both pretty awesome albums imho..

Very good thread idea, indeed! Bands like Caravan (early), Morbid Angel (until their latest), Lustmord, Bathory, come to mind.

Just discovering Mastodon again. I remember when I had couple of few their albums and did not like them at all. This was maybe 5 years back. Yesterday I discovered them again and they do deserve the hype they have gotten. I have yet to listen to their back-catalogue but Crack The Skye is one outstanding album. I will most likely purchase Blood Mountain today if I feel like going out. What album should I get after that? I'm thinking of getting two albums...

Leviathan was excellent at the time, and Remission is quite good iirc. Both albums sludgier than the modern stuff, but also quite proggy for the genre.

Vanden Plas' debut is pretty solid. Also, Seasons of the Wolf.

Well I finished the whole thing just now. Was quite excellent, perhaps not uniformly, but it sure begins and ends on a hell of a high, and the fadeout from Corryvreckan was mesmerizing.

Checking out Mindcrime II and it seems like it's probably gonna be good.

What was your thoughts on it?

It's okay on the first spins but the effect wears off pretty quickly save for a very few songs. Rather mediocre, I'd say.

I found Mindcrime II to be a HUGE disappointment after all the hype that surrounded it. I couldn't even walk away with a 'meh' feeling about it. I wanted it out of my house immediately, so I sold it on Ebay.
