Just saw them a couple weeks ago, fantastic live. They always do have a good guitar tone to.

It's actually more a combination of guitar and bass tones on Metallica's The Thing That Should Not Be. Really nice and quite fitting for a Lovecraft related song.

Damn, I was about to post Metallica's Orion. I've always loved the guitar sound in that instru.

Yes. I know saying anything good about this band is almost punishable by death these days, but, yes.

No one can resist Dismember's guitar tone. Especially on the later albums when they got a nice modern production.

The "chainsaw" tone, as it's known.

It sounded ok on their s/t but the bands music is kinda flat save a few good songs.

Yeah, I'm not their biggest fan either. Sick tone though.

All of Olaf Thorsen and Ander's Rain's guitar tones (Olaf uses Brunetti amps) and I believe they have always used 7-string superstrats. Olaf uses one alnico (sp?) humbucking pickup in the neck and a ceramic humbucking pickup in the bridge. I love the tone on the later darker Labyrinth albums too.

Alex Lifeson's solid state GK amplifer and his single coil strats. I like all of his tones, but that tone is insane. The runner up is his Hi-Watt/Gibson/Humbucker combination.

Of course Petrucci's Ibanez or Musicman twin dual humbuckers through a triple rec/road king or whatever boogie amps he's using at the time.

And what list would be complete (which this isn't) without Tom Scholz's Twin Dimarzio superdistortion pickups in his Les Paul Goldtop played through his Rockman power soak and his marshall heads.

There's a lot more, but thos eare the really notable ones and make me really want to play again.

MGLA - Groza
Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions
Nyktalgia - selftitled
Metallca - Master of Puppets
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

Seriously, the tone in MGLA's album is crushing. One of the reasons I didn't like the new album as much as Groza was the change in the tone, more polished. Same happened with Nyktalgia...
