Well, might as well let this cat out of the bag: what are your initial thoughts? I thought the singles were pretty good, especially Phalanx. This track flows pretty well into the closer https://youtu.be/TxR3zUDaJZ8

I honestly need more time with it; so far it seems technically fine but not quite as good as the last couple of albums as channelling that into compelling songwriting. Time and patience will tell, I think; certainly not a huge step down from WTDMS.

Another modern act that has been getting kudos here and there. Not sure I'm completely convinced yet, but they certainly have something:

Riffing style has a bit of Swedish death sound which I like, vocalist doesn't go annoyingly high, and always nice when I can play a band for people who can't stand harsh vocals. It's fine? Will certainly keep them in mind.

I'm out of ideas for hyper recent stuff, so going well into the past for this one. Fredrik Thordendal is one of my all-time favorite lead guitarists, and I've recently delved more into one of his biggest influences.

(original vid didn't work, assuming this one is the same based on googling the title - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK1PGBtqZDY)

You can kinda see the connections between this and Meshuggah solos? It's definitely interesting and not at all where I was expecting this series to go after you posted Trivium's latest  Vocals are kinda King Crimson-y, but I'm going to go sideways from that and post the most recent new song from an experimental band you should love but might roll your eyes at once you see who they are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kysho1WO2dY

Yeah, that song was the one, I think Thordendal was massively influenced by Holdsworth in terms of tone for leads at least. I can only listen to heavy material so much so I appreciate you continuing in a less heavy direction.
I've never been anti-Gathering, and was aware they didn't devolve like Nightwish. Mandylion was probably the first female fronted metal album I bought and it still is a very good one. Just forgot about The Gathering after Souvenirs but clearly based on this track I needed to remember them! Easily one of the best tracks I've heard this year: vocalist and track climax reminded me a bit of this. https://youtu.be/Iw-N_gLSw0I
Hope it shows up outside the USA. If not try this link: https://youtu.be/hs8ieWgQpAA
