I'm out of ideas for hyper recent stuff, so going well into the past for this one. Fredrik Thordendal is one of my all-time favorite lead guitarists, and I've recently delved more into one of his biggest influences.

You can kinda see the connections between this and Meshuggah solos? It's definitely interesting and not at all where I was expecting this series to go after you posted Trivium's latest
Vocals are kinda King Crimson-y, but I'm going to go sideways from that and post the most recent new song from an experimental band you should love but might roll your eyes at once you see who they are:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kysho1WO2dYYeah, that song was the one, I think Thordendal was massively influenced by Holdsworth in terms of tone for leads at least. I can only listen to heavy material so much so I appreciate you continuing in a less heavy direction.
I've never been anti-Gathering, and was aware they didn't devolve like Nightwish. Mandylion was probably the first female fronted metal album I bought and it still is a very good one. Just forgot about The Gathering after Souvenirs but clearly based on this track I needed to remember them! Easily one of the best tracks I've heard this year: vocalist and track climax reminded me a bit of this.
