I can't stand the new Sigh album and the new Shining album is meh.

Balls, was looking forward to both of those... Ah well.

New Shining is better than the last Shining album and I might not be the best judge of Sigh. It might still tickle your fancy.

Newest Solefald album is an album of music. That's for sure. Dodheimsgard doesn't do it for me. I still stand by what I said. 2015 sucks thus far.

Guess I just like the weird stuff, heh. Find 2015 so far much better and far more interesting than 2014 was, agree there at least?

I'm checking out the new Shining tonight probably. I'll give my opinion. I was pretty into them for a while so I'm assuming I'll like this one if trapt says it's better than redefining darkness.

On the last song on the new Shining, can't really say it's anything worth writing home about, a pretty mellow album.

I can never keep track of the relative year to year strengths very well, but on looking back I don't agree. I see 2014 had a bunch of recordings I spent a lot of time listening to like Blut Aus Nord, Darkspace, Abigor, Behemoth, Morbus Chron, Dead Congregation, Agalloch, and then decent ones like Meshuggah, Saor, Vintersorg, Xerath, Voices, etc.

Thus far in 2015 I really liked the Enslaved and Marduk while moderately enjoying that Forest of Stars, but that is about it. I probably will end liking the new Dodheimsgard more than the new Sigh (if I bother listening) but then I haven't liked anything by Sigh in a very long time. I think I'm sort of in the same boat as trapt, just not really into Zad's "weird stuff".

2015 comes down to the new MDB album either way for me though: I'm getting to the point where I just can't be bothered to search for many new favorites.

You're getting old, bro. :P But you have a point; I'd spend much less time focusing on new music if I wasn't writing about it.

Very much the same way. I might, however, check out the new DHG, and most likely like it. I find myself listening to a massive amount of just albums that have a stellar reputation like Anthems, Under a Funeral Moon, 1184, Morningrise, etc. And not because of just their stellar rep, but, more so that I have golden memories of them. Now that has a lot to do with age. Also, my taste is quite stable now (meaning certain standards must be met). I find myself listening to The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and loving them. I suppose you become comfort inside your skin and know exactly what you like. All good things.

I've found my habits have shifted away from listening to recently released stuff even though I still search for music a lot. It's just that I used to want to keep up with what people are talking about and if I were discovering a band, I would naturally go for their latest release, but nowadays I've been listening to a lot of 90s/early 00s music and when I discover a new band I tend to go for their most popular or first album rather than their newest.

2014 had all of my hipster doom/sludge favorites; Indian, Thou, Earth, Wolvhammer, Pallbearer... I should just listen more to these 2014 albums lol.

I guess one of the issues of listening to older classics is that my Window Media Player has gone all wonky on me and is having issue with mp3 tags...

New Paradise Lost on June 1st. This track is a throwback to Gothic(!), but based on their track record, probably not representative as to what the whole album will contain.

Looks like Till Lindemann and Peter Tagtgren have brought out the worst in each other...

Song is super catchy and kinda enjoyable. Just when you think you have seen it all you see Till in a sow costume nursing piglets...

As if the album will be half as good as the artwork. As if.

New Rotting Christ down the line, apparently.

New Lamb of God song(s) -

Am I the only one who finds Blythe's 'how dare you arrest me after someone died after I pushed them off the stage' act a bit much? Sounds like the best his band have been in years though.

I saw briefly that the Soulfly album has a Nails member guesting on it. Todd Jones on it.... Instant mosh.

Nile skinsman George Kollias' debut solo record out just a few weeks ago. Will be picking this one up shortly.
