In India, metallica wins, followed by Iron Maiden, Megadeth & Slayer. To a certain extent, Death. What's it like in other countries?

Metallica would probably have top spot here in the US, too.

Surely Metallica. System of A Down is also very popular. And Orphaned Land is very popular too because they make music very close to ours and they come here every year and give 3-4 concerts.

1. Metallica
2. Rhapsody
3. Manowar
4. Soulfly

The situation here is desperate. I'm sick of Metallica and Rhapsody worshipers. After this year the Soulfly concerts here will be 4, two this year alone. I wont be going to any of those. Fuck'em.

Sadly in England I think the most popular is currently Cradle of Filth despite the fact that, you know, SABBATH PRIEST MAIDEN.

Depends on the demographic. Overall I'd say the biggest name dropped if you asked random people in the street would be Metallica, but among the immediately visible 'Metal' fans (ie core kiddies/mallgoths) the biggest response would probably be CoF or Trivium.

I think Maiden would get the number one spot actually, almost everyone has one of their shirts nowadays. And yes, while Rhapsody are quite revered around here, there's also a certain number of people who appoint them as the disgrace of our scene, which is somewhat relieving.

Metallica, Maiden or Nightwish. Or Edguy  Edguy is pretty freaking big here. This week, Rocket Ride was the most sold hard rock/metal album.

When I'm browsing the metal section in HMV .. invariably somebody will offend me by heading straight for Marylin Manson, Slipknot or Metallica.
