| Post subject: | Guitar hints, anyone? |
I've been playing guitar for a little over a year now, and I'm pretty good for only that much time. Still If there are some more experienced guitarists here, I would really appreciate some advice. Practice methods, chord progressions, scales, chords, and just cool effects and tricks. Thx! |

If you want to be able to shred you HAVE to learn the Major scale in all 7 positions!!(or the modes) If you do this then you can shred all the way down the guitar and stay in key!! By learning the Major scale in this way you are also learning the minor scales so you will be killing two birds with one stone! This is also great for things like jazz, and other genres that use lots of modes. http://www.looknohands.com/chordhouse/g ... ex_rb.html This site is a great place to learn scales. on the left side, click G and then the Major scale. You will see a lot of numbers and it will look pretty daunting! don't be put off!! The concept is very simple! start at number one! the work up to number seven, and the back to number one! but you MUST play three notes per string!!! This will help you with speed later!! The second position of the Major scale begins at number two on the scale, and work in the same way as before, the third position starts from number three and so on! I really hope this helps you, i learn't to sherd in about three months doing this but you also need to learn to economy pick!! there are planty of tutorials on the web for that. When playing guitar, the experience must be, to some extent, spiritual. Yes, I agree that learning to become adept at guitar theoretically can definitely help; including scales, keys, etc. Both require practice, yet, keep at it. |

All I can suggest is that it is not a good idea to modify your guitar so that it has bass strings. The logical outcome is that it doesn't work that well, and you are left with neither a guitar or the intended instrument you set out to make. |
