I actually found this on Lost Horizon's web site:

THE GREAT MASTER BASIL POLEDOURIS PASSED AWAY. STILL WITH US!

(1945 – 2006)

"The ingenious and mighty visionary and composer of the music to the CONAN eposes – a milestone for epic works, with a
permanent place in lifes of all true metallers, warriors and epic film lovers – has passed away Wednesday November 8th."

Seriously, Basil was totally metal, and he made one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.

RIP

Would the soundtrack you're referring to be Conan the Barbarian? :)

RIP Basil

Yes. It's epic as hell. Actually the power metal band Domine has made a metal version of one of the songs from the soundtrack. It's called "The Aquilonia Suite" and that's one hell of a song! :dio:

I was just listening to "Riddle of Steel" yesterday. Amazing soundtrack for a decent movie. RIP.

It's been very long time since I really felt so sad about someone dieing  , Basil Poledouris was one of the greatest film soundtrack composers and definetely one of my favorites. His score for Conan the Barbarian is admitedly the grandest soundtrack for any fantasy themed movie.

Here's a clip of him talking about the soundtrack of Conan the Barbarian.

I also intend to cover one of his cues on classical guitar and post it at youtube as a memorial tribute. When I do, I'll also post it here.

Edit: Here's also a video tribute about him
