Post subject: I saw Blind Guardian last night

Leaves' Eyes opened for them. They were okay -- a lesser Nightwish basically. I hadn't bothered to listen to them prior to this show.

Blind Guardian was outstanding. Hansi's voice was a bit off in the first song, but he was bang on for the rest of the TWO HOUR set. They played perfectly, and Hansi said a lot of really awesome cheezy-as-fuck lines to lead into the title of the next song. Such as "it's dark in here, so I can't see any of your faces... I can't see any of your... BRIGHT EYES!"

They played nearly every song I could have wanted. They made sure to play all the hits (minus Majesty). It's pretty nuts watching them play And Then There Was Silence. I was one again amazed by the musical maturity of this band.

And alas, second to last, they played my favourite song: The Bard's Song. Hansi, as he usually does, let the audience sing half of it. I don't think the band will ever top this ballad, but they really don't need to. They finished with Mirror, Mirror, which was also outstanding, and the set went out with a definite bang.

Vancouver would definitely welcome Blind Guardian again with open arms. It was a pretty packed show, and for good fucking reason.

Blind Guardian and Angra are two of the bands I want to see before I die. Yeah, that's right... die!

They didn't come near you on this tour? I skipped them because i really only wanted to see Leaves Eyes and don't like where they were playing here.

Did they? I've been to wrapped up in wedding crap and moving to even catch a show in Omaha. My buddy went to the Katatonia show in Chicago, but I missed that as well.

"So we were travelling here by plane and we were...flying by night...so it was a...journey through the dark. you could say so...? And, that's also the name of the next song, this is a Journey Through the Dark!"

Hansi r00lz.

Also, the Guardian gig I was at a couple of months ago was easily one of the best I've ever been to, basically for all the reasons Jaden said.

Shit I'm jealous as fuck.

Hansi always r00lz.

My friend in London said the same thing bout a BG gig he watched last September. And the best part is...he and his friends all went back after the gig using the subway....all of them singin Valhalla at the top of their lungs. Can you imagine yourself as an 80 year old woman, sitting by the subway quietly when suddenly a mob of metalheads come by, singing Valhalla? It's like a fucking invasion.

Ha ha, same thing happened in Dublin...except without the subway. But yeah! Valhalla! I'd actually, sinfully, forgotten all about the awesomesness of that song until they played it. The crowd kept breaking into the chorus in every between song break.
