Post subject:  Stuck Mojo Being Censored By YouTube

A possible interesting discussion. Do you think this video should be censored? I'm not concerned with any stupid opinions on rap metal or how gay and shitty you think this song is; keep that shit to yourself. I'm interested to know your thoughts on the subject of this song being censored by YouTube.

Before you watch the video, though, read Rich's explanation here: http://www.dukerocks.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3065. That will give you a better understanding of the meaning behind the lyrics of the song—which I admit has one pretty crazy line where new vocalist Lord Nelson (who does a damn good job for never being in a band before) says, "fuck with my family I'll end your line" and shortly after says, "no matter if you're woman or man, or child." That's pretty fucked up; but in context of the song it makes sense. And definitely pretty unforgiving; I gotta respect that.

This is an excerpt from an e-mail:

Quote:
Stuck Mojo guitarist and songwriter, Rich "The Duke" Ward, will be appearing on the Fox Radio Network (FNC) at approximately 7:10 EST, Tuesday, December 19th on John Gibson's "The Big Story" to discuss the song/video "Open Season" from the new Stuck Mojo album "Southern Born Killers."

To listen, click on the link below and choose the "Listen Live" button.

http://www.foxnews.com/bigstory/index.html

With "Open Season," Stuck Mojo has taken a stand against the current, global jihad being waged by violent, Islamic extremists. This war is not only against America or Western Civilization, but against anyone who does not agree with their interpretation of their religion. The message of the song is perfectly clear - jihadists in America will not be tolerated.

The video for "Open Season" caused a stir among fans when it was apparently blocked, without notification, from appearing in the "Most Viewed" listings on YouTube despite its view count warranting a spot on the list. This censorship continues (as of 12/18/2006) as witnessed by the fact that the video was viewed over 6,000 times during the day but still does not appear in the top 100 "Most Viewed" chart. (#100 has 1,200 views for reference.) You can view the video at YouTube here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymLJz3N8ayI

In a bold move, Stuck Mojo released the entire "Southern Born Killers" album, absolutely free for download last week via their web site at:

http://www.StuckMojoMedia.com

The response has been overwhelming both in terms of sheer number of tracks downloaded as well as people purchasing a hard-copy of the album directly from the band to show their support. The limited edition CD is numbered and signed by the band and it includes a bonus DVD with the "Open Season" video, a feature on the making of the video, an interview and more. At the web site above, Rich Ward also explains the rationale behind making the CD available freely for download.

Naturally, the strong message of "Open Season" initially prompted some people to immediately dismiss it as being anti-Muslim which it is certainly not. It is anti-jihadist. Period.

Thoughts?

Seems odd that YouTube would censor it. I don't see anything too
offensive there.

.:crast:.

(On a side note, goddam, their guitarist look like complete tools! Haha, retard dance ftw!)

I've always found it odd how South Park is allowed to rip into jews and christians as much as they want but isn't allowed the slightest offense against Islam. I think this is sort of the same thing.

I checked out the lyrics they dont seem too bad. I think you hear worse on the television everyday. Youtube operates like society though, if one person views it as bad everyone else will eventually.

but bin laden has already been portrayed in South Park, and there's an episode where Mohammed is pictured and stuff. but i guess the show isn't as "aggressive" with muslims as it is with christians because extremist muslims willa huge fucking shitstorm about it.

the video hasn't loaded yet, but i read Duke's post and i completely agree. thing is idiots who lump all muslims together could, you know, become fans and give this band attention for the wrong reasons.

As someone who listen to a fair bit of political music, usually lefty stuff, admittedly, but the odd bit of NSBM as well, I can't see anything wrong with this. It's better than the gangsta rap, cop-killing NWA stuff in the PC stakes... Not bad for rap-metal, I'll have to download that album. :dio:

And fuck anyone who does anything in the name of an imaginary god. ANYTHING.

I own albums with way worse lyrics. It's actually pretty tame when you compare it to Pornogrind, Goregrind, and the like. But this ain't last year's YouTube, this is the new, corporate, Google the fucking world YouTube, and trust me, this is only the beginning of the censorship. Pretty soon you probably won't even be able to swear, and forget about all of those awesome vids of dudes being dumb and fucking themselves up. Within about 6 months the whole site will be devoid of anything worth watching. I'm guessing advertisers will start flooding the damn thing with fake "homebrew" videos anyday now. I think Sony already did something like that for the PSP.

Google bought YouTube, huh? I didn't know that; it explains a lot. I'm not sure if I should feel bad for the band or not. They've struggled for years—from day one actually—and I wasn't sure about them releasing their new album for free. (It made me rethink my "downloaders are ruining music" opinion, though.) I guess any exposure is good exposure, though.

I actually think the message of the song is pretty cool. When I first heard the "when you come to my 'hood, it's open season" line I was thinking this new guy had taken Mojo into some lame gangsta rap territory. They've always had really good lyrics for a rap-metal band, so I'm glad that the message of the song isn't showcasing some stupid thug mentality.

Rich does that shit live. He's an awesome guitarist; but he's definitely out of control. It's impressive that he plays perfectly while doing that ninja shit!

I figured while we're on the subject of politically charged rap-rock it might fit in fairly well...

Well, let's try to keep the vagueness to a minimum; create a few bridges to your weird thought processes, please. We're not really talking about music, though.

Update: Rich Ward has been put on the Gov't Watch List!

It's quite sad how they were ripped off by those record labels. I'm not a big Stuck Mojo fan but I do appreciate their music. And now they did what no band would do at the moment, release their WHOLE album for free download. And while reading the 'Stuck Mojo Mindset', it just proves how much they love their music, not the money.

Quote:
Lastly, if you don't have the dollars to buy the record, then just enjoy the free downloads.

Now, who else is that kind?

Rich Ward is a stand-up dude. And I'm happy that the band is getting some well-deserved exposure. You should see what's happened because of that video! iFilm banned it, too; then the band posted a link from iFilm of a pro-Jihadist video that showed Americans being sniped, and an American being beheaded. When that happened, it blew up even more! It's everywhere now!

Rich has been on all kinds of news programs, 99.9% of people that see the video are very positive even if they dislike the style of music, and the band has sold out of all 1,000 copies of the first pressing of the album—which may not seen like a lot, but $15 x 1,000 is a lot of money for a band that is used to getting nothing for their music! I mean, Stuck Mojo were one of the few bands to mix rap with rock and metal; they formed in the late 80s, and got no recognition for any of it, while bands like Rage Against The Machine became millionaires ripping off Downset—another band that started the rap-metal movement—and they also got no recognition.

I'm happy for Stuck Mojo. Rich is a great guy. I've met him many times and he deserves much respect.

You'll have to forgive me on this part guys. I had to give the video a pass. I didn't watch it and I don't intend to. i saw the first few seconds of the video and what made me shut it off was the part where they had this beheaded American's head held high. Err...maybe you guys don't know, but I'm actually disturbed by gore and all these graphical violence. I actually faint even if I hear stories. So well, I can't comment much on the video, but I'm damn supportive of it's message. Cheers.

I THINK MORE BANDS ARE GOING TO DO WHAT STUCK MOJO IS DOING AND RELEASE THE ALBUM FOR FREE AND PRINT A SMALL # OF COPIES ON THEIR OWN TO SELL AT SHOWS OR FOR PEOPLE WHO REALLY WANT IT.

AND RECORD LABELS WILL DIE

ANYONE ELSE AGREE?
