I hate most modern rap, but I can still dig some old school Too Short.

No. I hate wiggers and general mentality of rap culture etc, but not the music.

I hate it. I cant stand the mentality behind it. I do recognize that it takes skill, but it is just not my thing.

Mentality? What mentality? Rap is very diverse; dig a little.

I hate what has been presented through the mainstream since the 90s, thus I voted yes. I'm sure quality material exists but I have no time nor desire to find it right now. 20 years later, I'm sure my vote will be no.

Well the majority of what ive heard has a gangster mentalitly. I know that thought out lyrics do exist, but as I said earlier its just not my thing. Im not a huge fan of computer generated music, so that is probably the leading factor to my dislike of rap.

Most of the time, though hate is a strong word. I have heard some okay stuff though, so I voted no.

"Gangsta" rap has been more in the underground since the 90s. There are some great rap bands out there. I dislike the gangsta rap stuff simply because I hate that lifestyle. I grew up in the ghetto; glorifying that is pathetic. Especially considering 99% of the assholes in the ghetto are pussies without their friends or weapons.

But regardless, countless quality rap groups exist.

Yea and as I said earlier that isnt the number one reason I dislike rap.

I'm surprised there are so many "no"s. In my opinion, rap is the polar opposite of metal. All the things valued in metal (amazing musicianship, epicness, powerful emotion) are virtually non-existant in rap.

Depends which era of rap you're talking about.
I hate new rap, but the old stuff like NWA and Naughty By Nature is pretty cool. So, no, I don't hate rap.

i don't hate rap, but i don't like it enough to go and get an album or anything. i will admit that some of that stuff is catchy and has nice lyrics, though.

The Roots play all their own instruments. And they're pretty catchy.

And I'll second Caldogg on Naughty By Nature.

I'm someone that loves rap and metal pretty much equally. There is a ton of great hip hop stuff out there, but what I had to learn was to take genres on their own merits. It sounds silly to me when people dislike rap because it doesn't use 'proper' instruments. It's best to forget everything you know or expect from music when approaching a new style. It is pleasantly surprising that there is some support for hip hop on these boards though, as it disproves the theory that metalheads are narrow-minded idiots.
