Fucking sweet! I bought After Forever's Remagine from The Laser's Edge for $8 and it came with the DVD, but it's in PAL format. For shits and giggles I put the DVD into my DVD player on my PC, and the bitch worked! WTF? Am I missing something here? Is this a standard feature? This DVD player is just a basic one. I tried other PAL DVDs I have and they work, too! This kicks ass!

I have region free cracked DVD player and it plays PAL as well you can buy one for as cheap as a regular one. I have lost of DVD's from Asia and stuff so need a region free player.

my european dvd player on my pc won't play ntsc.

I'm thinking it has to be Region 0 for this to have a chance to work. I don't think companies make different DVD players for different regions when it comes to PCs. I mean, when I order something from any computer company it never asks me what country I'm from (except for the shipping address, of course). So I'm thinking that as long as the DVD is Region 0—which the After Forever DVD is—it'll work in any PC DVD player in any format, PAL or NTSC.

That's my theory, anyway. Not sure if it's true or not, but that's the only thing that makes sense. My DVD player is just a standard stock DVD player that came with my Dell. I did no upgrading for the DVD player, it's just the standard, nothing-special DVD drive.

Region 0 DVD's are not coded. They are made to work on any DVD player in the world. So what you have is not a PAL DVD, but an uncoded one. Most Bonus DVD's that come with CD's are Region 0, for cost reasons.

Region 0 means nothing if you have an NTSC DVD player and the DVD format is PAL. The format and the region code are two different things. A lot of people mistake this. Bands are always offering PAL DVDs coded Region 0 as "playable anywhere in the world." This is 100% untrue for standard DVD players. Trust me, I've fallen for that before and paid for a bunch of PAL DVDs coded Region 0 that never played. This is why I'm questioning whether or not DVD drives in PCs are different.

And the After Forever DVD says PAL right on it.

Well, I don't know. I've never had a problem with Region O's not working on my home DVD player. I even ordered Behemoth's Live Eschaton from Poland, and it played just fine. It also has no mention of NTSC or PAL it just says Region 0 DVD. Maybe you need to update your home player?

Maybe Dell uses universal players as a way to cut costs? They sell for dirt cheap, so maybe that's one way they found to cut a corner.

It's possible recent home DVD players are different, but I know they've never worked before.

why would people put out coded DVDs when they can save everyone a hassle and just make them Region 0 in the first place?

Yes. Movies that are coming out in the US on DVD sometimes won't even make it to theaters for months to come in other countries. They could of course make theatrical releases universal and they'd not have to worry about this nonsense, but that makes too much sense, I guess.

Both my home DVD Player and my Pc DVD play PAl and NTSC, no big deal, i thought most of the DVDs could support both standards, if not so, most of my friends DVD players (if not all) support PAL also, i have tried it with my Gave Digger DVD wich happens to be PAL.
