Can anyone recommend some godo classical music? Im looking for stuff that has a lot of sadness in it....... I particularly liek Sergei Rachmaninov's "Prelude in C sharp minor, Op. 3, No. 2" I find classically, that I listen to lots on the radio and that, but I know very little. I do know that Philip Glass is pretty good, and some of the classical film composers are excellent (Hans Zimmer, for example). Otherwise, it's a much larger genre than you'd expect, and you could a lot worse than simply tuning into the local Classical station ont' radio. Parents can be of great help here, as well. If all else fails, pm Misha. ![]() |

Zad is right, there's about a billion different things you could try. Arvo Part is pretty mournful and modern, and I'm sure you would find a lot to enjoy in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, which is pretty folky and necro. Also something I like a lot is Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition which is pretty awesome, although there's not much sadness in there, just description and drama. Aside from that there's all the very obvious ones. My favourite of which is JS Bach- try some of his better known stuff and go from there. |

I second Rio's suggestion for Arvo Pärt. I'm certainly no expert on classical but i like him a lot. Very dark stuff. And of course i have to mention Jean Sibelius, Finland's greatest romantic composer. |

mozart is good too, but i can't recommend anything as such, cuz the titles of his doesn't really say anything about the music, except for the operas and some of the symphonies, which has a real title... i have all Mozart's music, btw ![]() ![]() i want some Wagner too someday.. and some more stuff. Vivaldi - Four seasons is always a winner, everybody knows that. The problem with buying classic music is there are always many different ppl who have interpretted the same piece of art, so there's many versions of the same music. Some good, while other is crap and sloppy. Here's an exellent classic review page: http://www.classicstoday.com/ I myself have three versions of Vivaldi's - four seasons, and while one of them was somewhat crappy, the other one got a full score on the above mentioned page, which i got fairly cheap on amazon as with the crappy version.. however, the best version i have, i downloaded for free, performed by students or something like that.. |
