One example is John5. The mother is a badass guitarist, but playing with Marilyn Manson just gave him a bad name.

I was joking, joking i was!.. or semi-joke... Later Nargaroth is shit, but i still think he has some skills. He's just not using them very well.

Daath's guitarist - he has a really interesting style for a melodeath guitarist, but as a whole their new album comes off as really boring

Les Claypool in anything but Primus - his bass playing is fun but just not the same without the chaotic/dissonant playing of the other two members of Primus to back him up. All of his newer projects have had too melodic of lead players so it just ends up sounding too easy to listen to and boring.

That's probably the best example I can think of. The drummer is decent as well, but the guitarist is really the only solid musician in the band. Too bad the rest of 'em suck.
