I love them. Fucking awesome stuff. Best when integrated into black metal, it always adds a lot to the atmosphere. |

Gregorian choral music is alright (like the K said, better in BM) but other sorts, Welsh, for instance, is fucking dreadful. |

What exactly is a Gregorian chant? A type of choir vocals or something? |

It's a sloow chant that could put anybody to sleep. Had to learn about it in music class in 8th grade. |

Welsh male voice choirs have been the bane of our lives for years, providing comedians with ammunition to make fun of us for years ![]() |

It's also monophonic, meaning that everybody sings the same notes simultaneously. With that in mind, it's often hard to tell how many people are actually singing an individual Gregorian chant (it could be five or five-hundred and you probably would hardly even notice the difference). It's deliberately supposed to have a very dull, low-key sound since it's basically intended to be a means of communicating with God rather than producing enjoyable music. Actually, if you find Gregorian Chanting interesting, you're kind of defeating its whole purpose in the first place! ![]() |

Like I said, they're supposed to be the exact opposite of "fun and innovative music." Actually, Gregorian Chants were eventually banned in some churches because people started enjoying them musically. They were really supposed to be nothing more than a spiritual exercises Monks did seven or eight hours a day to communicate with and show praise to God. Any form of pleasure, even in singing Gregorian chants, was forbidden. |
