Actually I am pretty sure Iced Earth is categorized under thrash/power metal

In metal archives, yes.
And for me, sure, as some other bands as Metal Church or very early Savatage (but never Dragoforce... they are power metal, and I don't see a thrash trace in them).

I would put them into the Power Metal genre, because the vocals and the melodies, were IMO always too epic and too melodic. Sames goes for Rage, Mystic Prophecy or Nevermore.

In the interview Herman Li said:

(translated) "We have nothing any longer in common with Stratovarius[...]Helloween and Blind Guardian"[...]we have our roots in Thrash-, Death-, Folk- and Power Metal"

That statement is just plain stupid. There are no thrash, folk or death influences in Dragonforce's music. They do, however, have quite a lot in common with Stratovarius and power metal in general. High pitched vocals, speed, huge choruses and lots of keyboards. Considering that Stratovarius was responsible for making the latter popular in power metal, Dragonforce pretty much have them to thank for their existence.

And he also denied that they are using fantasy lyrics on the last two albums - because it shall have a deeper meaning if they sing about the warrior with sword and so on. The interview is actually very funny and I wouldn't take it that serious. :)

They were US Power Metal wich is actually a combination of Thrash and Heavy Metal, it was European Power Metal which in its begining was a combination of speed and Heavy Metal (early helloween, gamma ray, etc) that brought the melodic aspects to the genre, they became so popular that people started to asociate Power Metal with melodic, "gay" and "cheesy" music.

Outside of nu metal, every metal genre has bands which solo.

Disturbed have solos. Static-X have solos. The Foo Fighters have solos. Pearl Jam has solos. The Rolling Stones have solos. Why are we still talking about Dragonforce when it's generally agreed that they're a bit crap and not worth listening to for more than ten minutes except if you're a fanboy? Everyone go listen to Lutomysl instead and debate on the merits of one-man Ukrainian Black Metal as opposed to more than one-man Ukrainian Black Metal. Yes.

They are overrated (IMO), just like Dragonforce, except that they can write a different song every so often.

Why hasn't this thread been locked yet? The last one went down after the same amount of bitching, even if it was partially my fault.

Meh, I'd hardy call the mild-mannered tomfoolery going on here thread-locky worthy. People'll forget about it when the next big release is out, and then it'll get bumped in about three months by a newbie wanting to know why it only got 92.

And call Disturbed and SOAD pussy if you must, but Manowar and Tool are far from.

+1, Tool are one of the very few bands out there that deserve all the success they have, and Manowar are awesome/epic/funny but definitely not pussy.

And I only said the pussy thing, because everybody is bashing Dragonforce without cause. 1. They are not more or less Power Metal than any other Helloween, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Hammer Fall etc. band. 2. They are just playing much faster and they have much longer songs. Maybe for some, they think that there is not much variety, but you can say the same for nearly every Motörhead, Slayer or AC DC album, because there are just bands who have a trademark sound. It's the same with Running Wild. Either you love it or hate it.
