I'm extremely happy to see my all time favourite album reaching out to yet another person. Great review which really touched some important points on why this is such a masterpiece.

Phew. Both Bath and Still Life in the same week. There's so much love in the air.

I have their last 6 inc. Watershed and I like them all but never felt the urge to check out their earlier cds maybe I should. When I saw Opeth review I have to admit thought it might be the new cd fingers crossed for next week.

This album is a true masteriece; the music has inspired me and influenced my life for many years now.

One of their best, this album is second only to Morningrise for me... And one of the best albums of the nineties. Its a pity that music of such integrity isn't produced more frequently.

Don't knock Slipknot's volume 3 either - I reckon it to be a modern classic.

Haven't listened to it in like a year, but I remember Vol.3 not to be bad at all, I quite liked it.

I actually like Vol. 3, its the first Slipknot record that doesn't sound like hyenas having a jam session. That said, rating it 100 just because everyone else rated it low and you want to "balance it out" is some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

Vol. 3 ain't bad. But I'm not crazy about it. Their eponymous release is great, though.

But yes... Opeth. This is actually the only album by them I haven't heard. But everyone says it's so amazing, I guess I'd better get on it.

Great album! Not their best because I think Your Arms My Hearse takes that title.

I've been living with Watershed for the past week and it's the best thing they've done since Deliverance, although they miss Martin Lopez IMO...

For any new Opeth fan, I'd actually recommend starting with the 'Roundhouse Tapes' because not only is it an amazing live album, it also stretches across the whole of their career... Kinda like a 'Greatest Hits', but not, if you understand?

Going back to the topic, Still Life is just another piece of the perfect Opeth puzzle

I'd say start with Still Life: it might end up being your favorite album evar. As it did with me

A true classic. One of my faves from the Opeth catalogue. But that depends on which one I am listening to. But this one has a certain vibe that won't go away. Opeth has always been a rather brooding sort of band with their folk and romantic influences but this is perhaps their outstanding achievement in this regards.

I think any Opeth album would be a good starting point! They all possess amazing qualities, so it is hard to choose which one is the best. For me it goes (studio albums only!):

My Arms, your Hearse
Deliverance
Blackwater Park
Morningrise
Still Life
Watershed
Orchid
Damnation
Ghost Reveries

But saying that, there is such a fine line between all those albums, even Ghost Reveries scores in the 90's for me!

There is so much Opeth I haven't listened to.

Am I the only one that loved Damnation?

Godheads Lament has the best chorus ever!!

I also believe this album is the perfect place to start for people who want to get into Opeth..
