If you don't like this album then you are a disgrace to metal itself. This release is brilliant and its too bad that you're too busy living in the past to realize it.

P.S. How you can compare this to Pantera is beyond comprehension.

He's old world, and violently opposed to about anything that isn't his good old thrash, so let him be before he goes on some retarded tangent about the old days.

His level of comprehension doesn't extend to music like this, so he'll name-check just about any agressive metal band with a hint of a similarity in order to help build his argument.

I think I'll buy this one, I've been listening to City a lot these days and I'm craving for more. SYL wasn't as good as City, so I would like to know what all you guys think of this one. Any of you (the more the merrier) care to rank the Strapping Young Lad albums...? Thank you.

This one is definitely closer to City in sound and spirit. If you were dissapointed with SYL it will probably be a pleasant change.

I don't about know ranking them all but I prefer the sound of City and Alien, and both cds are overall stronger than the other two, but I enjoy them all.

City/Alien
SYL/Heavy...

Sometimes I like Alien better than City. Maybe that’s just b/c I have overplayed played City, but otherwise I'd agree with Dead Machine's list. Also check out Physicist. It’s a solo Devin Townsend project that sounds like a cross between S.Y.L. and Ocean Machine (another Devin Townsend project).

Thank you guys. I think I'll get Alien then...

By the way, that non-SYL Devin Townsend stuff seems awesome. Which albums should I get first?

Physicist, Infinity, Ocean Machine, pretty much anything by Heavy Devy.

I'm sure this has been said before, but "City" needs to be reviewed. Great album.

I've said it all over the Devin Townsend board and no one agrees, but Alien sounds more like a mix of Ocean Machine, Physicist, and Terria with a bit of Infinity and SYL mixed in than a traditional SYL album.

Yeah, pretty much. Devin is the man! I love the Punky Bruster album. It always amazes me to listen to it and know that Devin called up the label and said, "Give me $1500 and I'll give you a new album in a week!" and Cooked On Phonics was the result! Hahaha. Unreal. That CD blows away 95% of the shit that passes for punk and it was done as a joke...IN A WEEK!! Hahaha.

Devin Townsend KO1 All Other Punk Bands! :D

YES!!!

I've just bought this on eBay for £3.50 ($7) including p&p. This has been an album that I've always put off buying, (I'm tight with cash and I've got the odd song downloaded), but today is the day at long last!

You won't be dissapointed, this album is as heavy as a punch in the face from Gene Hoglan himself.
