I don't think you understand. I'm not trying to say they're making good quality music.

The cheese factor that these guys have has definite comic value.

So I agree there are a million better bands, but the mood is very different. So when you're in the mood for taking the piss, this is funny stuff.

It's like movies. There are a billion good movies to put on when you really want to drink in a movie. The Godfather, Bladerunner, you know, whatever.

But that doesn't mean that you can't get drunk and enjoy Killer Tomatoes From Outer Space....y'know?

But why put on Alestrom when you are getting shit-faced when there are so many other way better bands that do a much better job?

You seem pretty upset that anyone could like it ..

I LOVE THIS BAND THEY ARE AWESOME!!! PASS ME A JUG OF THAT FAMOUS OLD SPICE YARRRR!

Not really upset, but as AlexandeR said... Running Wild are much better at this. So why even bother with these guys?

Really man, it's all a matter of opinion.
But saying that you wouldn't listen to Alestorm because Running Wild is better is kinda ridiculous. I can say that Slayer is much better than Warbringer, but that doesn't mean I won't listen to Warbringer; they're both good for their own reasons, right?

Essentially, yes. You say that Alestorm is a fun band to listen to when you're drunk; I say that they're a good band to listen to anytime, as long as the mood strikes you right. Yes, Alestorm is a gimmick band, but they're one of the better, more entertaining gimmick bands out there. It all just goes back to the fact that whether or not you like Alestorm is just a matter of opinion.

I'm afraid you are mistaken about that.

I dunno, of course everyone has opinions, but the fact that this is popular makes me feel the same way as the fact that manufactured teen pop star #247 is popular.... a slight sense of despair.

Good review, though! (even if I disagree). Welcome aboard, me hearties, have some ale, and all that fucking goofy pirate shit.

Your comments about this being worst than the debut destroyed my remaining interest towards this album. Running Wild owns Alestorm in the Pirate Metal field.

+ like a million

It increased my interest because I didn't think it was possible that any music could fail more than Alestorm's first album. Sounds like the impossible has been achieved.

I just can't believe/understand how many people get all excited over these guys. Rubbish.

I hate the gimmickyness of it. All the folk/troll stuff we got with Finntroll was kinda fun, although I've pretty much gone off it now, but this is just tacky.

Listening to Pirate Metal is like listening to Viking Metal. Is Amon Amarth, Tyr, and Turisas gimmicky? Alestorm are a little bit chessy, but its still great music. I think Alestorm is going to be around for awhile. They could get big. Look at DragonForce. They are way more cheesier, yet you couldn't call them a gimmick. They got huge. How about Manowar?
There are currently no other kind of band that has pirate music in its sound. Its like a brand new genre waiting to be tapped.

Your last sentence fills me with utter dread, as if I have just heard a colony of rats scuttling about in my walls.

DragonForce are pretty much the archetypal gimmick band, IMO.

Yeah, have to agree.

Playing every song at a million bpm whether it fits or not is totally a gimmick, even if it's not as blatant as a pirate theme.

Why all the Alestorm and Running Wild comparisons anyway? Musically they are nothing alike. It's like comparing Darkthrone to Dream Evil because they both have songs about being metal.

+1. They sound nothing alike. I think people making these comparisons did not listen to at least one of these bands.

As for the album, I thought it was boring and uninspired. I enjoyed the debut, some cool songs there, but I found nothing of interest on this one.

I enjoyed the debut, but mainly for one song, Nancy the tavern wench. I haven't still listened to this one.

Sorry, but this is shit. If I want to party to metal I'll put on some Austrian Deathmachine, not this badly executed, horribly turgid joke.
