Also it helps that the rest of the album pretty much sounds nothing like the atrocious single.

The single is really good but I didn't like it at first either. Now that I've listened to it several times I really dig it.

Dimmu Borgir is a standout black/extreme metal band regardless of what anyone says. They've been going strong for 17 years and no one sounds like them and they consistently put out good material that has an original sound and have a great live show other than faggot Galder spitting water on everyone.

People hate on Dimmu because it's the cool e-thing to do.

Yeah they lack killer riffs but they aren't going for that anymore. They're a symphonic metal band that still likes to dress up and wear corpse paint.

Whoah, since when did being Symphonic Metal give you a free pass to write shitty riffs? Oh yeah, when Dimmu Borgir started playing Symphonic Metal . . .

It's a good album. I don't care what anyone says. I'm going to be listening to them a lot more from now on to.

They should definitely do a concert with the orchestra behind them. That would be amazing, create a DVD and all.

No, the single is complete shit and thankfully the rest of the album doesn't sound anything like it. Either way it's not all that memorable of an album, I liked In Sorte a lot more. It had some more flavor and was more in Dimmu's grandiose style.

This sounds like they're trying to make it more raw, or should I say more black metal, but it's Dimmu and they can't really do that so it's sort of interesting but not a total success.

Yeah that's kinda what I thought, and there are some kickass moments in here, but they can't sustain it for entire songs.

Oh I love the female vocals at the middle/end of the song. I think they sound great.

My favorite song is Dimmu Borgir though. I hope their next album is more guitar oriented though.

After listening to this album for the past week I would give it a 75/100. Solid album. Some of the songs are weaker and too long but their are some really cool memorable parts here and there.

I'd say about the same actually. Though I probably disagree with you on which are the better tracks.

This isn't all too bad. I might even buy this, although it probably won't make my best of 2010 list. But there are definitely some great songs on here, Xibir probably being my favourite. I even like Gateways now, despite hating it at first.

Yep Yep.

This album is sick. Chess with the abyss and dimmu borgir are my favorite songs I think. Ritualist is pretty tight to as is Born Treacherous.

So far I like Xibir, Gateways, Ritualist and A Jewel Traced Through Coal the most. I've heard a lot of people say that they like Dimmu Borgir the most, but I just can't see what's so great about that song.

Dimmu Borgir is just an epic song with this completely grandiose feel about it. ONE BRIDGE TO CROSS ONE BRIDGE TO BURN!
