Well I personally think this is one of his harder albums to get into. His non harsh vocals are a bit hard to get used to for me.

Oh give it a rest.
Don't you "he's racist/insert-phobic-here/bigot/right-wing/nut"guys ever get sick of spouting the same tired old bullshit?
We get it; you are soo enlightened and all embracing and all tolerant (as long as it jibes with your own views, of course), and the world should be a wonderful utopian bliss overflowing with milk and honey where if it feels good do it and houses are made of chocolate and cotton-candy, where we are all brothers and sisters sharing everything; sharing, caring for and loving one another hand in hand singing and dancing under rainbows through fields of gently wind-swept daisies while gold runs through the streets and nobody is cold, lonely, angry, discontent, hurt, sad, insulted, injured, left out, disenfranchised, hungry, thirsty, or without everything they could ever need, and there are no borders, races, nations or any of that nasty divisive stuff.

Yeah, whatever you say. I don't listen to that crap, so I wouldn't know.
I don't even know what the hell you are rambling about with "better than some social Darwin 00ber nationalist Christ republic."
Why don't you jackoffs keep your politics where it belongs, in the politics thread.
It gets old and irritating to have every single Burzum thread devolve into the same old bullshit. Yeah, we all know what Varg's said and done in the past, and we all know where everybody stands on it. Do we REALLY have have to go over it all again?

Just another example of how much this site continues to circle the drain (despite some recent excellent reviews) and another reminder why I seldom bother with it anymore.
Whatever, I'm clearly wasting my time; knock yourselves out and turn yet another thread into yet another boring and tiresome circle jerk.
Fuck it, I don't care.

And learn to quote; it's not really that hard.

Bahaha you're telling me to keep my politics in the original thread, when you self-righteously attacked Trapt's post under the pretense of being defender of Burzum? That was seriously one of the worst posts I've ever seen from you, granted you make it a habit such as myself to defend your respective point of view, but as you told Fridge in a prior thread don't expect another user to not call you on a 'bullshit post'. My response was as tediously insipid in the same vein as your brilliant diatribe about liberalism, though as you admire Varg, it's rather obvious that instead of some sort of comprehensively assessed post you'd settle on the trite nonsense of cliches. Nausea, Nausea, Nausea

You obviously just don't fucking get it, and the point of my obviously intentionally overwrought "rant" as you put it flew right over your head.
Since you seem to be challenged in the area of making a point through satirical hyperbole, let me explain it to you:
The level of absurdity that has been reached in regards to every single time we try and have a discussion about his MUSIC, some genius feels compelled to mention the "racism and the rest" as if it hasn't been beaten to death already, and almost always by the usual suspects. Again, you want to talk about cliches?
It's posters like you (and a few others I will not mention) that, contributing not much more than attempts at stirring things up, are causing this site's decline in quality. This is not a reflection on the moderation, or the administration and reviews here, as Goat seems to have mistaken it as; no. The staff here are doing a fine job and I have nothing negative to say about it. Rather, it is a commentary on the juvenilia so rampant amongst (admittedly, a very few, but isn't that how it always goes?) some of the regular posters here.
I've really just about given up on it, to tell the truth.

Your penchant for framing every piece of political commentary on anything that is right of center in terms of whatever Beck and the rest have to say as some sort of rebuttal is what is nauseating. Talk about clicjhes.
You don't even like Burzum, yet you somehow manage to find your way into most Burzum threads. What the hell is the deal with that? I've mentioned this before: why do people feel the need to pollute otherwise good threads with negative remarks about bands and genres they are not even interested in? It would be akin to me going into every Rhapsody thread and commenting on how "gay this is". You have a huge tendency towards this behavior, going way back.

I henceforth recuse myself from this discussion, so go ahead and have the last word.

Except for one more thing; I agree with whoever said that pursuing Burzum's discography in reverse (skipping over the ones between Filosofem and Belus) is a good approach.

COTB, you must admit that a site's forumites do reflect on the site itself, and if a certain few posters are spoiling the experience, then if the site management doesn't take action, who will? I'm happy to let everyone get on with it, generally, as long as the Twelve Commandmentsaren't broken. But it does seem like you're taking this easy capability of threads to follow certain predictable routes quite badly - the answer isn't to give up, but to stick around so that said 'juveniles' are outnumbered! Your opinions are as much a part of the MR experience for me as are batshit conspiracy theories from Adveser and weekly updates on a Monday, and losing your perspective will mean a poorer experience for all.

Anyways, let's talk music, like we're all here to do - it was me that said do it in reverse, and yes, I did mean skipping Daldi Baldrs and Hvilsjidskaf. Hvis and Filosofem deserve the most time spent with them, especially Filosofem, my personal favourite and still one of the best Norsk Black Metal albums ever, 20-min keyboard solo included. I think Varg continuing along the Belus-Fallen route will produce some excellent music, although I doubt he'll quite manage another pureblooded classic as in the days of yore.

Belowthelights - really? They're not really odd or outlandish for clean vocals, a la Dave Mustaine. Is it just because you're used to screechy Varg rather than chin-scratchy Varg?

The primary point of my contention with this post is you mentioned that I have some sort of deficiency in comprehending and or delivering my message through "satirical commentary". Which is more or less something you failed to accomplish with that piss-poor excuse for a "rant". I find this rather perplexing as you were the first jumper to Trapt's comment, and your self-righteous rant, if it is indeed to be referred to as such falls secondplace to your own hypocrisy when it comes to "talking" solely about the music. Granted, I don't recall ever saying I dislike Burzum, though my experience falls solely on the albums Det som engang var, Daudi Baldrs, and Hlidjiskalf. I make no ill comment in regard to his musical ability, and if I have in the past on said forum I redact the statement as a premature jest.

I have to concur with you on a certain level when it comes to lack of musical discussion with both you and I being in the guilty party for derailing this thread. Quite obviously Varg will be a subject of ire among leftists, as well as the topic of many a discussion on his politics, religious views, and this should be expected granted the moderators are right to ask us rather calmly to take our discussion elsewhere. You are one to talk about stirring things up with that post, yet once again attacking Fridge, Adveser, and other uses would find your criticisms hollow if not entirely devoid of worth. If anything it's as Goat said, and the variety and plurality of the posters contribute a great deal to said forum.

Thus being stated my political criticisms are just that, and I apologize for further obstruction of this thread with my long reply, but if you have any problem with them COTB as always and for further disagreements I am certain we will have as in the past there is the politics thread and or PM. Last time I checked this was still one of the less restrictive forums on free speech as opposed to MA and Metal cult, and if you have any problem with a sporadic comment about Rhapsody or any other band, then feel free to type another paragraph about why other posters except for thine grace is responsible for the forums "circling the drain" as you say.

Granted unless COTB has another post to make, my contribution to this thread as I have yet to hear Belus, is an inquiry as to if he intends to make longer keyboard integrated tracks. The prototypical Burzum riff as I recall is a minimalistic, yet when accompanied with the lightness of dark ambient it creates Burzum's wholly disheartening sound. Judging solely by the posts on the first page of this thread, the album sounds lighter than past efforts, which is startling especially since in an interview Varg said it would be akin to Det som

The fact that so many people are willing to sluff off that he's murdered someone, no matter who he killed in that sense, is very strange to me. I suppose it taints the music for me, much like that recent crap with Wrest did for those bands.

I don't really consider myself a moral guy or whatever, but I feel awkward listening to it.

It's hard for me to ignore the fact that Varg killed a guy with a sword, or that Wrest assaulted his gf, but that doesn't make the music any worse. They did some fucked up shit, but the music is good, and in the end, it's about the music, not who they are as people.

I never liked Leviathan so I don't care about Wrest and never will.

I like varg's music for the most part and while I don't respect him killing euro it doesn't stop me from listening to it at all and I've never thought about him killing that guy really. Would I ever become buddy buddy with Kristian (Varg)? No.

This is a great example of how originality never fades. He has given me something that I have missed in Black Metal as of late. Inspiration and Spirituality. I believe, Varg, or Count Grishnack, or whatever, has done his time like a man and come back stronger than ever. Good for him. Great to listen to this around the campfire in my backyard overlooking the river.

Agreed.
I was skeptical (just due to returns-from-exile generally turning out to be disappointing, and the expectations were high), but his new material is better than a hell of a lot of stuff out there lately.
Have to give it (Fallen) some more spins; only had the chance for one sitting so far.

I don't really know what it is specifically, I just don't think his clean vocals fit so well with the music he makes. It could be that I'm just so used to his harsh vocals, but I think the album would have been better overall if he toned it down a tad. I still like it though, don't get me wrong. :dio:

1994 was probably the best year for black metal releases ever, so is this such a bad thing?

Most bands from that era have either moved beyond black metal (Enslaved) or imploded and reunited for live shows (Emperor and immortal). It's nice to hear the music of someone who was around then and still knows how to make good black metal.

Plus at least the vocals have progressed in a new direction.
