Well, maybe I worded that incorrectly because I don't think all comparisons are cop outs because I, too, use comparisons in reviews that I do. What I meant is that I've read so many reviews that say Band A sounds like Band B and they proceed to talk about Band B for the whole review when they should be talking about Band A. And oftentimes the similarities are so remote you know the reviewer really didn't pay attention to the CD. Like he popped it in and said, "Oh, a soprano, huh? Nightwish wannabes!" when in reality they sound nothing like Nightwish (that comment is not directed at this review).

Do you know what I mean, though? Haven't you ever read a review and it's so blatantly off-centered that you know it can't just be a subjective and honest review, you know the reviewer probably listened to the first 40 seconds of each song and then tried to convince people he knew what he was talking about?

Thanks for clearing that up, and yes, I do know what you're talking about.

It probably doesn't matter to anyone and I'm probably wasting my time typing it... but I listen to all CDs for an entire month before rating and/or reviewing any of them on my site. I believe memorability is a huge factor in the quality of a CD, and a lot of times that isn't clear to me until after 3 or 4 weeks. 8)

That's cool man but we have so many cds that pile up around here that we cant be afforded the luxury of giving every album a month before a review.

Sounds to me like there is a bunch of babies on this site who can't take a little criticism.

As for the review..... The review doesn't discourage me at all. I am not a fan of NIghtwish or any other band with a chic singer (Except Elisa Martin).

I like the review, I like most of the reviews on this site. And the ones I don't... I'm not gonna cry about em'.

I understand complaints don't get me wrong, but don't attack the reviewer. Don't tell them HOW to review and album (especially if you have your own metal reviewing website, which by the way I will never get feedback from b/c it seems like you like EVERYTHING).

......Visions of Atlantis sucks.

I don't think I attacked the reviewer Ben at all, maybe some of the others did. I simply said I like the CD and plugged in my review to give a second opinion. Shouldn't be anything wrong with this.
Ben, if you feel I attacked you in any way, please let me know. I never intended to do so.
I actually felt like I backed Ben's opinion up a bit by saying "it sucks that you have to pop in and back up your review".

I don't understand the "it seems like you like EVERYTHING" comment???
I just handed out a 2/5 for the new Tristania, a 1/5 for the new Overkill, and a 2.5/5 for the new Hammerfall (that a lot of people really like). I actually get complaints that the rating system is too strict and the ratings are too low if anything... so why would you say this?
I spend a lot of time on the website and it's designed to help power metal fans like you, so why would you say these things? Please tell me.

And Ben, I'm really seeking feedback from you regarding this topic, me and my website.

I'm confused guys...

Heh. Heh. :)
My bad dude, I guess I really skimed through the posts to quick. I actually thought you said something negative about him having to come and back up his reviews. I also might have had a few beers in me when I posted that.

I'll check out your site again. I remember going there and seeing high ratings for a lot of albums that I really didn't think deserved the time of day. But I am also not a nightwish fan, and I saw high ratings for Nightwish, among others. I was also really close minded when I was at the site, mainly b/c of your avatar. I'll definitly check it out again.

So my bad dude.

I still do think some people need to let a reviewer review, even though I made myself into a hypocrit by not doing such. Anyway uhhh...... carry on.... I guess..... I'll shut up.

I appreciate you clearing this up for me. I can promise my intentions are always to help fans ( 8) ), and this would include even those who aren't Nightwish fans.
Please give the site a second chance, and know that there are 4 other reviewers, so you might be able to relate your tastes to one of them.
I'm definitely a huge female-vocal lover (and proud of it), but a few of the other reviewers aren't ( ).

If you don't end up liking the site, no problem. I'd be surprised if you didn't find some useful info off of it though. 8)

Thank you! :D

Hey whats up Clint,

Nah there's no hard feelings or anything at all man. I was just trying to defend my review and prolly came off as being an asshole. I remember the old days when we had the old forums and every review was a flame war where you had to stand firm and repeatedly explain why you gave it a score of whatever because of so many people telling the person that they suck because they gave band X a high/ low score.

I checked out your site too and you know what its pretty good. Yea there's things we disagree on but everyone has their own opinion and yadda yadda. So once again, sorry if I myself came off as being a dick and keep coming back.

Ben

Great, the last thing I would want to do is offend a fellow metal fan. :)

I don't think you came off this way at all, you stood firm with your opinion/review. In return, I was just giving a "second" opinion (I'm sure we'd all agree a second opinion is always helpful, whether an agreement or disagreement). 8)

Thank you for looking at the site. I agree, everyone has different tastes/opinions. That's why I think it's very important to understand a reviewers tastes if you're planning on reading his reviews/ratings. This is why we created "profile" pages a little while back.

Thanks for listening guys... :D

OK, so I picked up Eternal Endless Infinity this weekend I must admit that this album sounds like it was intended as a Nightwish clone. I mean, on this album many songs actually have parts that sound exactly like Nightwish songs. It's a bit disappointing really.

I mean, the font used throughout the CD—except for the band logo—is the Nightwish font! Hehehehe. All in all this isn't a great CD and the 3 bonus tracks from the 2000 demo sound better than the tracks on the CD, which is not normal! Hehehe.

Does anyone else have this album? The one thing that saves it is that the demo tracks are from their 2000 demo and Nightwish really wasn't as big as they are now so it doesn't scream "Nightwish rip-off!" as loudly as it would had they put those songs out now. You know?

Anyone else have this album? What do you think of it?

I do have their debut, and think it's good, but nothing great. They improved a bit on this 2nd CD in my mind. 8)

I just listened to their 1st album and it isnt anywhere near as good as their 2nd album. I'll admit tha yes they do try to sound like Nightwish in the 1st album but have moved away from that in the 2nd. Dont let your disappointment from the 1st album stop you from getting Cast Away, it is much much better

Well, I have Cast Away and it is much better than the first, I think they went for a more distinct sound.

It looks like this band has finally come into their own! Check out the clips from the upcoming album, Trinity:

Each songs sounds excellent! Even Mario has stepped it up big time, and sounds awesome! He was a bit flat and weak on the past albums, he sounds great here. Man, I really excited for this one now.
