Judas Priest Turbo era and we mocked them a lot, actually.
I don't remember Iron Maiden or Dio in glamwear, granted Bruce has had a few ridiculous stage costumes over the years and Dio took his "troll-like" personae a bit too seriously but nothing like those silk and leather, well groomed/maked-up poseurs' outfits JP and the Rÿche looked like in 1986.

Terrible album; I can't even get through the whole thing. I'm very open to different kinds of music and have no issue with Qryche transitioning from a metal band to something else, but I wish that "something else" was listenable. So painful.

There's nothing wrong with what Queensryche are doing. It's time people got past the past, you know. Queensryche haven't been "metal" for longer than they were metal at this point.

This new album is still pretty bad, though. As was American Soldier, aside from "At 30,000 Feet."

Giving it yet another spin and it's getting better and better.
Kenny's right on one thing Queensrÿche are no longer (thank god!) a metal band but he's wrong about the album quality. There's 3 songs I still think are unecessary fillers but the rest is rock solid modern rock.

Possible it needs to be spun a few times. I listened online, puked down the front of my leotard, and then vowed to punch Geoff Tate in the face if I ever see him.

I don't think a lot of people understand that this album is not bad because it is not metal, we realize that. It is bad because it is, well, bad. I was very very disappointed to hear that Opeth got rid of their death vocals, but I still found the new album to be good. I was disappointed to hear that the Black Album was not thrash metal, but it was still good music. I was disappointed to hear that Queensryche is not longer a metal band, and this new album is shit no matter how I go into it, no matter what genre I am in the mood for. It is just bad music...

Promised Land rules, you turds!

And Mindcrime II was weak. A few great tunes, but overall weak. And why'd you skip Q2K and Tribe?

And Hear In The Now Frontier! That's another good album, despite its very different sound.

Tribe and Q2K were okay. Q2K was better than Tribe, which was pretty weak overall. "Right Side Of My Mind" is still, in my opinion, one of the best Ryche tunes ever written.

Is that speedo pic seriously Tate?

They've been reduced to creating shitty ass albums and shitty ass cabaret tours.

So no I don't expect them to make any decent albums anymore not with DeGarmo out of the equation.[/quote]

I shall quote myself:

DeGarmo can't save these cats. It's the Geoff Tate Show now. That fact is clear.

And let's not forget, Hear In The Now Frontier was pretty much a DeGarmo solo album. And I imagine you dislike that one. DeGarmo co-wrote some tunes on Tribe...and they're not great. Spys4Darwin, his post-QR band, was alt-rock. He's also worked with Dredg since then.

Musically, he's done nothing even closely resembling the Queensryche everyone wants to hear again, so why does anyone think DeGarmo would somehow save this band? He won't. He's probably less "metal" than the rest of the guys at this point.

Oh, and this album sucks.

And seriously...

In that video from 1982, Geoff looks like the "Rock Me Tonite" version of Billy Squier shit out a Marc Singer Beastmaster replica. 1982! Why are any of you surprised to see Tate in Spandex in 2011?
