Overall I think it's slightly better than TSHF, my favorite tracks being Washington is Next, Blessed Are The Dead and Burnt Ice. Sleepwalker, Play for Blood and the new A Tout Le Monde are also good songs, the rest are kind of uninteresting though. The album is better than I expected, and there are some pretty cool soloes too (quite alot of them!).

It could have used some more riffs and better lyrics in a few songs, other than that I am very pleased and pretty much agree with the 85/100 score. I'd perhaps rate it slightly lower but it's still one of the better albums so far this year.

To me, this album is pure genius neo-trash for the first half of the album but as you get to "Blessed are the Dead" things go downhill for me. The second half is more in the old-school vibe trash metal that Megadeth is known for. And that doesn't cut it for me. To me this album is way way way better than TWNAH but a little weaker than TSHF but that's only because I find it too much old-school sounding.

As for the A Tout le Monde remake....man...why ?? I really dig the original and speeding it up is not good for the song IMO. And the performance by Christina pales in comparison to what she does for Lacuna Coil. But, you kinda get what Mustaine was trying to do if you watch the video.

70/100

As for the guy who said the Sleepwalker lyrics were stupid...read again !

Quote:
The problem with me for the lyrics is that they are just a bunch of nonsense. The lyrics for Sleepwalker are just ridiculous:

Quote:
Just taking a stroll; don’t go to sleep! Here’s some toothpicks for your eyes!

You always make an excellent cadaver
I roll your body up in a carpet to make music in the
Trunk of my limousine, wrapped up in a rug
A fitting end, is that I send you up the river like a punk

Just taking a stroll; don’t go to sleep! Here’s some toothpicks for your eyes!
The guy is sleepwalking and he's killing people when he is so he doesn't want to sleep anymore. The toothpicks are placed to make sure his eyes don't close.

You always make an excellent cadaver
I roll your body up in a carpet to make music in the
Trunk of my limousine, wrapped up in a rug
A fitting end, is that I send you up the river like a punk

The way I see it:
When you put somebody rolled up in a carpet in your trunk and you're driving, it's surely gonna make some noise (i.e music). And then, since he's sleepwalking again and on a killing frenzy, he kills again by throwing the guy off a bridge.

So...I don't see why these lyrics are so ridiculous...

Why cant Megadeth get a proper vocalist instead of Mustaine pretending to be a singer? In my opinion the vocals are the only weak point in this album

Mustaine's vocals have definetly improved since he laid off the spike. I think Megadeth just vwouldn't be the same without his vocals, even though he's not the best singer.

If anything, his vocals have gotten worse- and its more noticeable because now he tries to sing much more melodically which he shouldn't be doing. In the past I would have said no, but yes, Megadeth could use a new singer now- but it'll never happen.

To each his own I guess. Maybe it's just studio trickery on the new stuff seeing as I haven't heard his voice live.

His voice sounds great live. He could he just trying to hard in the studio and just winging it on stage.

@Sleepwalker lyrics: Badass song, lame lyrics but still good.

Rolls eyes.

As opposed to someone gullible enough to have been sucked into the pro-terrorist, collectivist propaganda of the pseudo-news on Communist News Network, I guess.

Yeah, the fair and balanced wasteland of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity crying about Wal-Mart saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" really gets after the tough news stories don't they?

for the record, I agree with Lewis Black when it comes to 24 hour news networks, it takes them a month to report 24 hours of actual news.

Oh and be sure to get your "No-Spin Zone"Golf Balls.

He never could sing, but he always got away with it. I think it gives the band something special, something extra thrashy.

in his defence there aren't many actually talented thrash singers.

Not true. Some of those guys can hit notes a power metal singer can't hit.

There are some really great ones, but I think overall thrash isn't a genre where I expect vocalists to be awesome.

Agreed, but even still, Mustaine's recent vocals are grating and don't add anything to the music anymore.

I am highly impressed with this cd! Megadeth sounds incredible again. You have to love when Dave is angry. :dio: It has not left my car cd player since release day.

I even enjoy the cover tune . This has been a fantastic surprise. This is how I personally love Megadeth to sound.

But Thrash Metal never was about beautiful "singing" in the first place. Venom, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Testament... thank god, that they've never hat standard boring power metal vocalists.

I also think UA is the best Megadeth record since Rust in Peace, because it's heavyer, faster and better than anything that was released in between:

Countdown was very good, but Sleepwalker alone kicks the ass of most of all songs,
Youthanasia was too slow and too catchy,
Cryptic Writings was fast (FFF, Disintegrators) and cool (She Wolf, Trust) but the production was too much pop,
Risk was a good Rock album but no metal and thrash anymore,
TWNAH was metal again, but boring and mostly lame,
TSHF was very good but had too many mediocre songs (Scorpion, Something I'm not, Shadow of Deth, My Kingdom)

IMO UA has only two weaker tracks: A Tout le Monde 2 and You're Dead.

First of all, I never said beautiful singing, second of all you are stupid.
