Completely different styles of music...

Ok, I'll leave it here since you're prepared to argue until everyone either agrees with you or drops it.

THEY ARE! One's all poppy and radio-friendly, the other is atmospheric. Huge difference.

And yeah, make me out to be stubborn when you just posted five times in a row arguing the topic.

I won't deny being stubborn but you beat me.
And The Gathering are poppy too.

Yeah, the review is pretty bang-on. I had high hopes for the album, I wouldn't say i'm disappointed, I really enjoy the album thoroughly, but nothing really stands out from the rest unfortunately.

MDB and Skyclad are in totally different genres though at opposite ends of the metal spectrum. LC and TG might be nowadays, I certainly wouldn't dispute that, but around LC's early albums and TG's first ones with Anneke they are definitely part of the same genre IMO.

But if Skyclad were also a doomdeath band, then yeah, the violin usage would probably make them natural comparisons.

FINE THEN Lacuna Coil and The Gathering may once have been more similar than Skyclad and My Dying Bride BUT SINCE now they're totally different then complaining about the relative scores of their two albums IS SILLY and THAT WAS MY ORIGINAL POINT.

And it's still like comparing Metallica and Voivod.

Agreed that they're totally different now, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad comparison. It's interesting to see how two bands have taken a similar idea in completely different directions. I wouldn't cross reference the two scores necessarily, so I agree with you there. But it's valid to say something like "the gathering have gone in a much more interesting direction than LC", I reckon.

Ah, see that I do agree with.

Most entertaining thread in a while. bastard's sexist comments own.

Don't really care about LC anymore even though Comalies kicked ass. My only gripe with the review was with all the mid Paradise Lost comparisons. Any song of Draconian Times pretty much destroys anything LC have ever done.

Well, Ferro does sound like them. Agreed up to a point; Paradise Lost with Cristina on vocals would be amazing.

No way a song like Enchantment would be better with Cristina on vocals.

After one listen, it's a good album. If I had to rank it now, I'd rank it as their worst. There's something different about this one. The songs are more subtle and less catchy, I think. I don't know...I need to listen more.

I like it, though.

Everyone should know by now that Lacuna Coil plays a poppy kind of metal, so why crucify them for doing exactly so ?

Shallow life, corrects everything I hated about Karmacode: the bass sound, the mixing of the two lead vocalists, the drowning of vocals (especially Cristina's) and Andrea Ferro iffy vocals.

Lacuna Coil's latest release ain't a masterpiece they don't take as
many chances as some people would like, but what they do, they do well and that is catchy melodic music. One thing the band improved on is the vocals Cristina and Andrea (especially) never sounded better. This album is quite enjoyable and in no way deserves the hating some people have displayed.

Great review Zad!

Zad, I have to agree that you've written a good strong review. Thank you.

I'm not sure why people come into a thread to complain about a band that they already don't like. We all know the direction that LC was headed in based upon how Karmacode sounded, so it should come as no surprise how this CD sounds. If you don't like it then don't listen to it.

Cheers guys! Not sure if you've seen this:

but it's an album I'm sure you'd both dig. I liked it better than the last Lacuna Coil and Gathering together...

Goat,

You are right, have only heard the Lacuna album and must say for what it is they do it is a good album, Comalies was better but maybe this just needs a few more plays to really wrap itself around me.. And to those of you who compare WT to LC, they both are outstanding bands with great singers who just happen to be beautiful women..

Cristina is way, way hotter. Besides the fact that Cristina didn't do a techno song either.
