It's a sad state of affairs when everyone's discussing a review from some other site in a review thread here. This must be due to all of Death Spell Oh Mega's Satanic powers causing chaos and disarray.

The worst part of that review is when it assumes that people like it because we're afraid to look stupid. Fuck off, Mr. Reviewerguy, that's a bogus fucking statement, and you know it.

Also, let it be known that if you don't like DsO, then that's perfectly okay with me, but I still think they're the best BM band ever.

Yes... of course it is... you got me... literally the only problem I have with that review is that it has a different point of view to my own.

.................

Anyway, moving on.

Minus all the kinda unfounded bashing of it as too elitist there wasn't much left in the critical section.

The two paragraphs quoted by Evil Dead are pretty weak and ass-like but in fairness the guy makes some reasoned points in the link as a whole. Just... I don't really understand where he gets those points from. E.g.

Much of the band’s blistering riffwork and drumming has been replaced with lots of mid-paced, limp-wristed progressive/jazz melodies that effectively strip the songs of the furious momentum and sinister energy this project was known for.

I must have listened to this album 100 times and honestly can't recall a single 'mid paced jazz melody' within the entire thing.

I do actually agree with his first paragraph, excepting the last line of it.

And here I thought I was duly dismissed...
Am I being dismissed agian? You sure this time?

Surely the whole point of being dismissed is not having to come back and question it? I think there's a bad case of Cerebral Havinthelastworditis going around.

OHHH!!

I don't know why for the life of me I thought those two paragraphs was a bulk of the review. I need to hear this album goddammit.

Just finished Apokatastasis and am gearing up for another go round because I'm digging this shit.

Edit: the screams in Phosphene are weird. Real weird.

Yeah.

There is nothing too chaotic about this album at all either. It just flat out sounds good and is a work of art.

90/100 for me.

Working through my third listen and I'm loving everything about this album. I keep catching these moments which stop my thought process and I just kinda absorb the music for a bit. Wings of Predation's outro? So quality!

Abscission is the weakest track for me, actually. I find it quite frustrating to listen to.

That bit is great. How about Have you Beheld the Fevers? Pure awesome rocky song.

The whole album is filled with genius in parts and straightforward and fun bits are not forgotten too. It's an easier listen than FAS, and probably a better album too.

Either that posted review or rio's commented about the French spoken words as being pretentious and that sounds so ridiculous of a criticism post-Grand Declaration of War.

This album is really, really good after about eight listens. There is so much to it. The Fevers is such a rocking tune. This album has so much going on. Easily better than Fas which was kinda bleak. Probably the best bm album of the year with Watain/Drudkh being quality seconds.

Edit: Just fell in love with the last track. That is so epic. It's like Kenose II but cheery

OK OK so I went and listened to it because Inquisitors isn't representative of DSO blah blah blah.

Honestly, it sounds like Ulcerate. Quite a bit like Ulcerate in fact, to the point where it sounds more like Death Metal to my ears than Black Metal. It's not bad, but it's certainly overrated. Might grow on me.

Dordeduh is generously sitting this year out to give all the plebs a chance.

Also like Portal. That's fine. Overrated after hearing a single album and how many listens? Give the shit a chance to sink in. This isn't easy listening. It's layered.

Well, yes, of course Gorguts worship in even it's most incompetent form would be more inaccessible than your average album. I never said I wouldn't listen to it more than once: that was just my first impression.

I only have Fas Maledicti, which other album including this one completes the trio? Would that be Si Momentum circumspice?

Fas is a handful to listen to but it can be rewarding if in the right mood. I also think headphones are the way to go with that kind of production. So many subtle things going on at once...
