Aenima is an amazing album! Hands down, this is far better than Undertow. I'll definitely be buying Lateralus and 10,000 Days in the not-so-distant future.

Aenima was pretty good, but i dont get whats so surprisingly good about this band...

they were surprising years ago... not anymore because so many people have tried to copy their formula (very few succeed, none completly)... they're still to be considered as a groundbreaking band though (if just for artworks...) 8)

I listened to this album a few times and I just dont like it. It is not something I actively dislike, it just makes me feel nothing at all. There are some real cool parts in almost every song. On the same level ther e is a lot of crap in every song. I think Maynard wanted to make an intelligent allbum and forgot how to write an actual song. There is not one great song on this album. It will sell great and get great revies in a lot of places just because it is TOOL, but I really feel it was a week effort. I like meandering. Prog metal is my favorite genre and ths brings nothing new to the table and it doesnt even bring anything exciting to the table.

Just so you know, Adam Jones writes the music for Tool. Maynard just writes the lyrics. It has been Adam's band since day one.

I listened to Aenima again a few days ago, and it is funny how time changes perspective. Aenima is much better than Undertow, but it doesn't really strike me as an excellent album anymore, just a good listen. My moderate disappointment with 10,000 Days only makes me appreciate how good Lateralus really was. I'm afraid Tool will never be able to top Lateralus, but I would sure like to hear another attempt within the next couple of years.

I actually think that the negative reviews come from it being Tool. If any other band released an album as good as 10,000 Days I couldn't imagine it getting many negative reviews. I also think the title track and Vicarious are 2 of the best songs Tool has ever done o_O

I listened to this again earlier today and I still find it boring. That saddens me as I'm a big Tool fan, but aside from like 3 good songs, the rest of the album has only good moments and generally just meanders along aimlessly.

This album is now relegated to Shelfcore status. I've given up. :(

Easter egg alert!

Wings for Marie + Viginiti Trees together have the same length as the song 10,000 Days... so apparently they synch up somehow (either Viginiti trees then wings for marie or wings for marie then viginiti treses). i tried it the viginiti trees first way and its really cool because the soundscape of that song complements the storm at the start of 10,000 Days perfectly. Then Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days both hit their heavy parts around the same time and its crazy.

Uh yea that pretty much settles that for me as well. Not that I could stand Tool anyway, but that is a serious condemnation right there. :P

By the way, they totally copied disturbed's album title.

I was thinking of calling them geniuses, now I'm sure, they are fucking geniuses. This shit is awesome, even though it was dissapointing at first.

The funny thing about all that is that it doesn't match up! It only matches up in certain spots, which makes the whole "genius" of it completely random. Random genius? Wow. Pffft.

This is a case of fans just reading into something way too much.

You're right, but obviously if the people who wrote this stuff are not deaf, they have to be aware that it only works for certain parts of the songs. They should've mentioned that.

Some parts of it work flawlessly, some don't.

edit: Especially on Viginiti Trees, it's pretty well matched. You can't really tell it's two songs playing at the same time. What's jaw dropping is the match of the drumming. Seriously amazing.

if you play viginiti trees then wings for marie alongside 10,000 Days the loud parts of Wings/10000 Days match up perfectly, then so do the quiet outros.

Until the band acknowledges that they did this I'm going to continue assuming it's just a coincidence.

Even if it was coincidence, they'd be prats not to take the credit.

Ken is like Mikey, he likes everything, I can't believe he doesn't like this. Tool is like the most overrated AOR band of all time, worse then Journey. lol
