to me DEP are the result of lots of musical talent, but with very little organization and songwriting (they have it, they just don't use it much ). Still entertaining though, but only if I'm in the right mood.

There is a point when music becomes useless noise, but this is nothing to do with how atonal or chaotic it may appear. To me, the only kind of music that can truly be described in this way, is simply bad music. Great music has already been made that has blurred all technical definitions of the line between music and noise, so that none now remain. I appreciate that this isn't really the issue, but it's an interesting discussion anyway.

Back to TDEP... They may indeed be screamo kids at heart, I don't really know, but I think it's unfair to lump them in with that crowd musically simply because TDEPs work is unique, and meticulously crafted- compared to most screamo which is generic and hastily cobbled together. They write complex songs, and perform them flawlessly, without really conforming to any specific formulae. I agree with you however, that there is still a certain sense of craftsmanship missing. ie, there is not the personality or emotion to their songs that you get with bands like Botch or Sikth.

Another problem I have with this album is that, while it's a good idea to include a more "melodic" song in principle, it's not done especially convincingly. I'm thinking of that track that sounds like NIN... While this is actually a decent song for what it is, the band don't really make any attempt to resolve their melodic and dissonant sides. While in theory this doesn't have to be a bad thing, it would make for more interesting music in this case.

I agree, i like how chaotic it is, but more emotion would be nice. They just need somthing to grab onto, i know there music is chaotic, but they do need a backbone

Here's a short story which relates to the reviewed album.

Generally, when I buy an album and am unhappy with it, I will try to recoup the loss at a second hand CD shop, or at the very least, give it away to someone who might actually enjoy it.

But something different happened with "Miss Machine." I listened to the album through exactly one time. Usually, I have music on in the background but this time I sat and concentrated on the album, taking it all in. After it was over I sat for a few minutes, contemplating what I had just experienced.

I slowly removed the album from the player, placed it back in its case, and walked outside to the dumpster. I threw it in as hard as I possibly could.

The End.

OH YEA?! well um.... your an idiot times INFINITY! so there!

I figured my post would likely put some Dillinger Escape Plan Apologists on the defensive, and perhaps I owe an explanation.

But I don't even know where to begin. I've never had such a negative listening experience before in my life. I can't even describe it. I drive a delivery truck around all day and I always have metal on in the background to keep me sane. I can't stand driving without music, I simply cannot do it.

But something about this album deeply disturbed me. For at least the next few hours I drove with the windows all the way up in complete silence. I felt like if I heard even the tiniest sliver of sound I would snap.

Seems crazy doesn't it?

I felt like I had just been sprayed with Dillinger Escape Plan and I couldn't get it off. To me this album was like listening to Poison the Well while having a panic attack on meth. Look, there have been plenty of albums I disliked and uttered not so much as a peep about it, but not only do I HATE this band with a seething passion, but listening to it made me hate music itself, as if it had been tainted in some way.

Ok I'm done now, I promise.

That's actually a pretty good description.

I've listened to this album a more than a few times and I must say I love it now, it's hooky enough to keep you coming back, and then it once you get through that you have technical parts that will stand up to thousands of listens before you can get over them.

Go you! Seriously. I hate this band too. It only took about a minute and a half of one song for me to decide that this is utter shit.

Here's how my listening experience went:

Switch the channel to a Metal station. Dillinger Escape Plan was on.

DURNURNORNURGURNURNUT-T-T-T AAA NURNURNURNUR

"YAHYAHYAH! GRBLE FURBLE DRRR!"

DURNURNUR *SQUEAL* FAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAP

I switched the channel back, deciding commercials about hemmeroids was much less painful than this.

I don't hate them, but they're not my fave band of that genre either. The lead singer's a hunk though, *swoon*.

You are just saying it's bad and you hated it with all your heart, but you ain't giving any facts telling why you hated it so much...

It's nice that this band affects you... better that than unmemorable mediocrity.

Heh, "I Root for the Shark" was the name I used before I decided I should just use my real name. I was watching Jaws II and all I could think of was how much I wanted that shark to leap out of the water and fucking kill EVERYONE. But as we all know, it was electricuted instead, and those annoying kids survived. Goddamnit.

And yes, The Dillenger Escape plan is still the worst thing I have heard since they had Phil Collins on the regular rotation at Walgreens. I wish a shark would eat Phil Collins .......
