Even with as big of a Kyuss/QOTSA fan as I am, their debut doesn't really interest me. I'm doing perfectly fine owning Blues For The Red Sun, Welcome To Sky Valley, and ...And The Circus Leaves Town (not to mention all five QOTSA studio albums).

I take it you've heard it, at least? Nowhere near as deep and awesome as later Kyuss albums, but it's more than worth listening to, a great bit of driving/drinking rock.

One of the most overrated bands ever. There's an album's worth of great material between all their albums, but there's a ridiculous amount of filler on each one.

Scott Reeder is a sick bassist, though. I saw them open for White Zombie in the early 90s, and the dude just owned the stage.

Personally I think this album has its own charm despite its rough sounding production. I'd take it over '...And the Circus Leaves Town' any time as I think that album was a bit too disjointed (most likely due to the personnel changes?), whereas 'Wretch' is incredibly consistent despite its limits.

And Zad! I can't believe you dislike 'Big Bikes'! Sure, it's macho nonsense but I think it's purposely written to be tongue-in-cheek; it always raises a smile with me when I hear it! Furthermore, that main riff is as sleazy as anything I've ever heard!

Good album but by no means perfect.
80/100

Eh, it spoils the album flow, I think, and is a pointless interlude between the excellent I'm Not and Stage III. It's bearable I s'pose, but it's certainly the album's weak track. Agreed that Wretch is very consistent overall, though.

Nah, that's a fair enough point. As mentioned, I think it's the 'joke' song of the album, which was a bit of a Kyuss trademark (see 'Lick Doo' on '...Sky Valley' and 'Thong Song' on 'Blues...'), so, for me, it works as part of the overall Kyuss experience. Agreed about 'Stage III', it's an awesome album closer.
