I have to admit that even though I love Amon Amarth, a lot of people do seem a bit overenthusiastic about them. Yes, they've got killer leads and Johan Hegg is one hell of a vocalist (live, especially!) but I'm not sure they deserve all the blind praise they've been getting.

That said, Twilight of the Thunder God is a killer album, even better than 2006's Oden is On Our Side. This one for me would be a high 80s album, while Oden is On Our Side would be an 85. Still, a worthy addition to their discography.

At least, Amon Amarth are a surefire value when it comes to their sound. They stand for consistency and that's great.

Great album. I don't think it is nearly as good as WOOOS, but still very good. 75/100 for me.

Short review btw...

This one is definitely the best album of Amon!
They did make some breakthrough by adding more varieties into their album!Though I won't say they are innovative but I'm still a diehard fan of them! I will recommend all of my metalheads to give it a try!

Not such a great album i think, a step down from WOOS. Big step down.
This band has a great formula but should start spicing it up a little bit. Or just do like Bolt Thrower, stop making albums...
65/100

I thought this album was good but it didn't contain any surprises or really put itself above any other Amon Amarth album. I love this bands consistency, but maybe something a bit different next time around would be nice. Also, I felt the guitars could have been a bit more crunchy and brutal.

I'd give it a 90/100

With Oden On Our Side was a lot better, but this is still worthy of at least 80.

let´s see. make my last stand check, will not yield check, final charge check... their lyrics are starting to get really pathetic. It´s like they copy and paste from earlier records. I like the first and the last song catchy melodies, but they need to make a change now. Maybe a space opera ala Ziltoid. But I guess it still works for most people and there are plenty of other bands for me.

I really miss the raw sound and fury from the crusher and the avenger, I never seem to tire of those. Was hoping they would make something closer to that again.

I'm glad people are finally realising the staleness that is Amon Amarth. Versus the World was their last album worth picking up, in my opinion.

I love how this album emphasizes the melodies. I understand that AA is repetitive and creatively stale; I just can't help but to not enjoy Guardians of Asgaard.

A great album (can these guys make a bad one?!). Ill probably score it slightly less (around 85-90).

I would not consider this to be album of the year, my choice would be Dragonfly's "Alma Irae" (unless Wintersun or Adagio manage to release their albums before the end of the year I doubt id change my mind).

Album of the YEAR :dio:

This is exactly how I like Amon Amarth, melodic and catchy. I like it even more than With Oden On Our Side. I'm not really that fond of their more "brutal" albums like Versus The World but to me this is the perfect mix of heavy and melody.

For me this album is pretty solid, but i do see where it may sound typically. Like a mid-paced early in-flames/dark tranquility with an viking metal theme/lyrics. I would still rather spin the new Stormwarrior- Heading northe tho for a better heavy metal/viking theme/lyrics type album. I know they are two different genres, but for me the stormwarrior gives me that viking-fist pumping, blood-hungry experience better than this new Amon-Amarth or any amon for that matter. I guess im just not a death metal kinda guy anymore.

One of the great things about Amon Amarth is their use of great harmony leads (melody lines with varying root notes) combined with their "brutality", which this album has a lot of.

This definitely took a more unique turn from the songwriting they usually do, looking at the title track for example. However, some of their blandness definitely shows up here in the form of bad, boring riffs. I think where they improved in melody, they lost in pure awesome riffs (such as ones from "Once Sent from the Golden Hall").

Anyway, this album is pretty much hit or miss for me. It's either awesome or a snooze-fest at random times throughout the album. For the good parts I'd give this about an 87 and the bad parts around a 63 or so (possible that certain members in the band write great stuff while some others don't?)

I saw them live recently and they really put on a great show, btw. I recommend anyone to go see them if they get the chance :dio:

Amon Amarth are one of the few things in life that never lets me down! Another consistently good and frequently great offering from the grim vikings.

Never realised that was LG Petrov guesting on Guardians Of Asgard until today. Pretty similar sort of vocalist to have complimenting Hegg, no?
