Have to hear this. Symmetric in Design and Pitch Black Progress were awesome.

Zad,

That was a great review. It's good to see someone judge an album on it's merit without musical bias getting involved. Good job. I love this band and I'm really looking forward to buying it. I listened to it when they had it posted on their Myspace and it really is the best work they've done so far. I didn't think they could write a better album than "Pitch Black Progress" but they have. I like they're writing formula. If you're a fan of Melodic Death Metal then I strongly recommend listening to any/all Scar Symmetry.

Anyway, thanks again for a great review Zad!

First off, the cover art looks sick. Secondly, I thought the song Morphogenesis was fucking awesome. I never gave these guys a chance in the past because of the Soilwork comparisons, and I regret that.

This is better than anything they've done IMO. But the album is a bit too long, still only gave it 2 spins, but i don't feel the urge to listen to it again, which is not a good sign.

58 minutes, eh? I think perhaps they could've cut a couple of songs.

One of those rare albums that does everything right. This is without doubt Scar Symmetry's best album. Catchy yet complex so you'd come back for more unlike the new Norther. My only complaint is that Morphogenesis is the weakest song here and shouldn't have been the opener.

I agree about the album's length. But try to pick out the better songs they're definitely worth it.

I think its one of the more accessible songs on the album (and certainly the weakest like you said), so probably from a fianncial perspective they choose to have that as an opener.

I completely agree. This has overtaken PBP as my favorite SS album for sure. :dio:

I've no complaints about the length, either. All the songs are presented in a way that I never felt the album drug on for a moment.

Great review, Zad... My only complaint is that you're saying SS isn't treading too new of ground. This album is far more progressive than any of their previous efforts and Alvestam has definitely changed it up in the vocal department. I realize it isn't a 180, but it's definitely progression on part of the band.

That's just my opinion though and I know you gave yours in the review.

Hopefully the band makes another stint in the states sometime soon, I missed them on their last leg through here. =/

Unfortunately that seems to happen to a lot of people. I think the Soilwork comparisons are unjust.

hahaha I think this album is just brilliant, however I heard this one 1st and loved it and I also think Morphogenisis is a great song.

I've actually heard PBP after this one and now I can't stop listening to it.

This band is fucking brilliant and sounds nothing like Soilwork.

Generally, since I listen to albums whilst writing reviews, I stop listening to them for a while afterwards, but this somehow keeps finding its way back to the playlist. Great stuff.

Finally heard this, excellent stuff, especially Morphogenesis and the title track, but the other songs are also awesome, have to listen some more.

DL'ing this now. I loved Soilwork for a time, but that time didn't last long, and I avoided them for the same reasons as mentioned above.

I haven't heard a Soilwork album yet, but I think they went the In Flames route, ie, the first albums rule and then they start sucking. All I heard from Soilwork was the title track of Stabbing the Drama, and I was not impressed.
