I keep meaning to give NIN a fair listen. But for some reason, I never do. Being that this new album is FREE, I guess I no longer have any reason not to.

This is a good album. Not as good as Year Zero, which for me is his best.

I don't understand all the people who cite downward spiral as their favourite, Year Zero is so much more complex, so much more mature. It's a masterpiece. As a follow up to Year Zero, The Slip is pretty good (I never listened to ghosts I-IV). It feels connected to that album, but it has its own flavour too. It's just not as boldly inventive.

A free album is rare enough, but one this good? If you've ever liked industrial music at all, download this.

I got sick of Trent Reznor's immature whining and boring music by the time I was 14.

I love industrial -- but NIN never did it for me.

I must be very stupid to like NIN at 30 years old then

anyway, i always been a fan of NIN's music and honestly, I don't understand why people still compare NIN to Skinny Puppy in 2008

Apart of Pretty Hate Machine and Wish, which had a lot from Remission, Bites and Rabbies from Skinny Puppy, NIN has evolved in a very different way than Skinny Puppy since 1992... 16 years have passed.

And it's coming from a big fan of both.

me neither, i never really understood why the two are compared so frequently even in the first place. I mean it's obvious that SP are an influence on NIN, but Trent's music is much, much poppier and catchier than Skinny Puppy's... the two are aiming at totally different goals with their music.

Exactly. Skinny Puppy IS real industrial music while NIN is an industrial rock band (Econoline Crush, Machines of loving grace). The only NIN's album with a more harsh sound is the Broken ep. We can definately hear some of Puppy's Rabies. But The Downward Spiral or The Fragile have nothing is common with Too Dark Park or The Last Rites.

The Closer EP had me and all my friends loving NIN for a few monthes but that only lasted until we heard KMFDM and Rammstein. Liked Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral when I was 16. Not at all anymore.
