I've never criticized a review here and it annoys me when people do, however I think this was incredibly negative for an 87/100. I get the feeling you might be one of those "Steve Perry is Journey, Journey is Steve Perry" people.

As I have posted on the AOR forum, I think this album is a step back to classic Journey that old and new fans can enjoy. Not only that the story of Arnel is amazing and I think he will sing in many Journey albums to come.

I have supported Journey for years. I would really love to hear them play Higher Place or Signs Of Life from Arrival. I think those are two criminally underrated songs that need dusting off. This is an outstanding album that has old veterans being brought back to life. But as for being ranked in the nineties? Nah, I save that for Pretty Maids' Pink Cream 69 and Journey themselves finest hours.

I think the review is spot on it's a good album no where near the classics but then again what is in the modern rock world anyway you can't touch their back catalog no matter how hard you try.

And there are those who still think that Journey isn't the same without Perry behind the mic but the new singer does a good job it's a wait and see thing if he can pull off more good albums then maybe they will be in the high 90's.

I don't see the review as negative at all.

I do think, however, it might have been received better with a line like "This is an outstanding album that has old veterans being brought back to life" tossed in there, because I didn't get that vibe from the review. I got a "This is a decent album" vibe.

Holy cow! I must say I was very impressed not only by the quality of the new songs but the re-recorded classics as well. I still think no one can ever match what Steve Perry did during his time in Journey, on albums like Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Captured, Escape and Frontiers. But this new guy is really great! And he is the best singer since Perry. He gives the band new life and sounds almost identical to Perry. He has power, range, etc. He's a great find and all the more reason for any Journey fan or doubters to check this out!

Hey Jeff...I will freely admit that I was one of those doubters and a Steve Perry devotee. I've been a Journey fan since 1982 and they hold a fond place in my heart because they were the first band I ever saw live. Further, I was completely convinced that Journey would never have a chance in hell if they didn't somehow strong-arm Perry to rejoin the band and get a psychologist to accompany them everywhere like Metallica did. I was never impressed with Steve Augeri or the decision to go with Jeff Scott Soto either. What soured me even more was the material on both Arrival and Generations. Arrival was too syrupy slick with ballads and Generations seemed like it was Journey just going through motions.

I actually made myself sit and give both Revelation CD's an objective listen (no matter how painful I anticipated the experience). Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. The new material is very strong, well written, and performed to perfection. Arnel gives a stellar performance and I agree that he's the closest thing that Neal and Jon are ever going to find sounding that close to Steve Perry. I don't feel that they've reached the level and cohesion that Journey enjoyed during the 80's but they're damn close.
