I still think this album is only slightly weaker than Monolith. I remember holding out for a while at least two months or so after this album came out, and when I first heard it before going to school I was blown away by the sheer scale of the sound. Travis' vocals match the insanity from seeing them live, combine that with the speed of songs like The Gardeners of Eden and The Ripe beneath the rind and it was a good starting point to get them into the more progressive moments on Monolith.
This is easily the standout album of their careers. Monolith's greatest moments are built on the Jarboe title track and Regret & the Grave. The technicality and speed really shines on this album. They basically took everything on past albums and turned it up to 11. Monolith only exceeds it by maintaining the quality and adding melody in those weird, visceral Travis Ryan moments.
