I didn't like this either. Against the Seasons was their best effort, I think (I haven't heard their second release, but I'm sure it's better than this one).

You appear to be the band's new target audience...

James, thank you for this very brave review for a site replete with Woods of Ypres fanboys. Finally, someone with whom I can agree.

I was unaware of the proliferation of WOY fanboys, haha. I didn't write it to be controversial, I just wrote what I thought.

This album is a 12 yet The Unspoken King was underrated.

This album isn't amazing but a 12? C'mon. This is a decent melodic black metal album and if those two words don't suit you then this album obviously won't suit your preferences.

Edit: After rereading the review, I really don't know how to defend the album. It has a clean production, clean vocals (which admittedly aren't the best) mixed with harsh vocals and possibly too angst-y of subject matter. Is that necessarily a bad thing- no. It seems like the review's negative criticism is all just based on calling the band a sell-out and fit for mTV. Ultimately, I'll concede that it may be better to say the band is simply influenced by and not an actual black metal band. I'm not a WOY fanboy I just thought this review was little harsh.

I like this album. Enjoyable melodic bm. I even like the clean popy vocals, since they remind me of Pyogenesis and therefore of my teenage years. I usually don't pay much attention to lyrics, so there's nothing wrong with this one in my book.

Heard the first track (I think) and it sounded like catchy Folk Metal with a poor production. Certainly better than Unspoken King...

I didn't mind this CD, you people should really reserve 'crap of the month' for when it actually deserves it.

heard 6 tracks on their homepage from the new album. I'm not saying it deserves a 12, but there's just something crappy and wrong about the way it sounds. The vocals are certainly to blame - the clean vocal was good enough for few brief moments like on Agains the Seasons, but not on the scale they are used on the new album. Not only does the clean vocals sounds boring, pop-ish, monotonous, and uninspiring - they also sounds crappy with the lame FX's (mainly chorus effects, i guess) on, to make it sound more interesting throughout the intire album - or simply to disguise the fact he can't sing.
I can only imaging this album being extremely boring since it's 72 min long.

bah... bah...meh.. muh
