Such a freaking awesome album! Truth is bigger than most of these pompous "epic" metal bands... and if you don't at least bob your head or tap your feet to Bad Devil, check your pulse, you're probably dead (or deaf!) :P

My favorite Townsend album after Terria... and the review reminds me how badly I need to check out Ocean Machine... I've heard so much good stuff about it.

SYL is just so crazy. Oh My Fucking God is probably the angriest song I know about. Devin is one of the few vocalists that actually sound genuinely pissed off instead of just growling like a gorilla. I got into them with SYL (the album) which wasn't the best starting point but Alien and City are just mind-numbing albums.

SYL is pretty underrated. it works perfectly for what they were trying to do with it (less layered arrangements for more "live" sounding songs)

True... besides, Bring On The Young is still my favorite SYL song. The build-up of heaviness in that song is just awesome.

That is the first SYL album I heard. I loved it. It's just as brutal as their other albums but it is more blunt and to the point and that is fine with me.

This was the first Devy album I heard and I still consider it my favorite behind Terria. The man is a genius. My love for Devin Townsend seems to only get stronger, especially when one of my all time favorites gets reviewed... thanks Zad!!! Anybody who is not a Devy fan must start now.

hah.. 4 years ago when i was serving my time in the military a metal guy showed it to me, and i listened to it twice... i though it was pretty fucked up and bizarre  maybe because of coverart. I would probably still find it too weird for my taste if i gave it a listen today

I heard he is producing a ton of stuff and that is his primary focus as of now.

Devin stated this on his forums on Wednesday, April 30, 2008:

“I have songs... A Monday, Coast, Disruptr, The Way Home, Lady Helen, Synchronicity Freaks, Gato Negro, Demon League. Thinking very hard...The record may be called 'Ki' or 'Ki-Ra' It's very different and very special...very strange...very minimal...deeply satisfying and sometimes very heavy in a 'new' way...it may be too dark for some. I've worked on this record more than almost any record I've ever done next to Ocean Machine. Sometimes I think it's brilliant and sometimes it freaks me out. I have an ambient record in the works as well. (That one is a ways away though...). Konrad, who did the Hummer and Devlab art, is doing this layout and videos and he is doing an AMAZING job.”
