Very good album, definitely a band with their own sound, which is fairly rare, I guess.

I think this album, just like "From Mars to Sirius" is complete genius.

I used to find them a bit too 'Celtic Frost meets Morbid Angel', but they've moved away from that here, good stuff. This album's definately less monotonous than the last one.

Amen to that. I really like The Way of All Flesh myself but I have to be completely honest, From Mars to Sirius just leaves me cold. I tried to get into it but it just won't "click", per se. I find it so damn boring. But I guess it's just me not "getting it".

Less monotonous you say? I might check this out then. From Mars To Siriius, whilst having its moments, seemed just that, monotonous.

Have any of you guys seen Gojira live? not the biggest fan, but that was just sick. The interaction is just jaw-dropping.

I have not seen them live, but my favourite track by them that I've heard is a live version of Flying Whales I got on a cover CD of Terrorizor. It was immense. Far better than the studio version.

Ooh yes, that's what turned me onto them. The whale noises... really amazing, far better than the studio version.

Indeed I have! I went to Roskilde 2007 for the sole purpose of seeing Gojira! Best concert I have been to so far!

Definite spot in my top 5 of 2008 that's for sure (might be a hard struggle for place one with Opeth and Meshuggah).
For me the special Gojira-magic consists of their awesome melody lines on top of the musically interesting foundation provided by complex, yet earthshattering grooves.
About the discussion over their earlier album(s): I actually think that Gojira is one of the few bands who only produced kickass albums so far. There's for sure a more than significant difference in the quality of production, but the amazing and always interesting music is there on all of them. Using the adjective "monotonous" for their songs would fall into the same category for me as calling Meshuggah monotonous; grab some drumsticks, play for a couple of years and all of a sudden you'll see the richness and beautiful variety in their works.
Like it's always the case with complex art you won't see the actual details unless you know the basic makeup by heart, so be patient and listen, then I can almost guarantee, that you'll acquire the Gojira-taste and live happily ever there after :P

+1, for me the likes of Gojira and Meshuggah are far from monotonous. From Mars to Sirius was crushing and the whale guitar sounds in songs like Ocean Planet were fucking genius. The only part of that album that pissed me off was Unicorn, as I was expecting a rap to come in at any time.

I love Meshuggah, but for some reason From Mars To Sirius just didn't grab me. All of the songs felt constructed from too similar a palette, but not in a good way. I will give it another chance since everyone loves it, though.
