I have to agree with Clint here... but that's probably because I haven't gotten saturated with power metal yet. I really like this album myself. While Amberian Dawn disappointed me, this really appeals to me. Slava sounds great, approaching Tarja-isms a few times (although never as much as Katra, who's a Tarja sound-alike) but never over-singing, at least in my opinion. Love the punchy sound, too. It's a nice change from many band's subdued sound thanks to being drowned in ivory.

One thing I do agree with you, Zad, is the fact that a few keys don't make a band symphonic. When I think symphonic... I think Septic Flesh's Communion... or Chaostar... but not this.

That's great... I'm glad you like it. It's totally my thing, so I'm sure everyone knew I'd dig it.

I agree. Slava isn't trying to be Tarja.

I just re-read this review and I must say that the following statement is a bit rude:

Quote:
And no, putting a woman with a prominent nose and mildly provocative clothing on the front of your album will not make me more likely to purchase your music!

Everyone has their own style of writing for sure, but this comment is of no help to the band/fans, and is unnecessary...
This is just my opinion of course.

Rude how? Could've been worse: it is typical rubbish gothicky tacky tat for artwork. Is it the singer in the artwork or something?

Like I said, it's just my opinion, and perhaps I'm just too supportive of the band, but I thought the comment about her nose was just a bit on the rude side.

If it was the singer, it would be even ruder (as only her voice should be judged, imo), but it's actually a professional model (so she's surely used to critics). Her name is Amber Gangi, and here is her website:
http://www.ambergangi.com

Enjoy! :D

Well, if it was the singer, then clearly she doesn't mind her physical appearance being used to sell the music in addition to her voice. My comment was more about the fact that artwork of this sort is unoriginal, and the band members think it will sell their music better.

Anyways, 'prominent' isn't necessarily an insult. It means 'striking' in that sense, not 'massive'.

I have to side with Zad for this one... sure, women are boobs are great but is it really necessary to show women off on every gothic/black or whatever other style of band with female singers's cover artwork? I mean just take a look at Napalm Record's roster around early 2000s to see what I mean... it was getting a bit ridiculous, to the point of being able to say "oh, another Napalm band" just because of the artwork.

Great arguments guys, thanks - I understand. :)

... anyway, I just finished spinning this a few minutes ago, and yeah, I think it's killer!

Just listened to some songs from this album on their MySpace. Interesting riffs and guitar shreds but the melodies were abscent and the hooks nowhere to be found. BTW, could have sworn they got Tarja to sing on this album...
