I really like the first 4 songs a lot! Nice and heavy with a good modern 7 string sound. But after that the AOR influence takes over too much and they sound kinda dated and pretty soft? The 8th song 'Static' being the only exeption.

The 5th song 'The Silence Within' starts out with just a killer heavy riff then the song gets all soft and syrupy?

Cloudscape seems a bit confused about what direction they want to go in. I think the heavier more modern style at the albums onset suits them much better.

I think the silence within is pretty good... Overall pretty damn solid, I didn't really expect them to exceed their previous releases in terms of quality.

Not their best effort though listening the first 5 songs would make you feel otherwise. It's the not-as-good second half that drags this album down a notch. As Metal Marc pointed Static is the exception.

The one thing I disliked most about this album is their failed attempt at writing long, epic songs like Alagoas and Eyes of Jealousy. They stopped being progressive after their debut, even that was more of a prog/power but then the AOR influence took the front stage in the songwriting. Melodic metal would be a fitting tag for their albums now so if you like bands like Last Tribe and Allen/Lande then this is right up your alley.

Love the new album but Crimson Skies was much better. This one just lacks the "oomph" that Crimson Skies had. A good album but a bit underwhelming if you listen to it right after Crimson Skies.

I agree with this and it's in line with the rating/comment I added to MCDR in November, but I will add that this is one of my favorite bands.
:)
