I started with Excalibur and Rheingold which are both awesome, Pre-ordered this.

I'd go with Rheingold, personally. But Excalibur and The Grave Digger are also awesome albums, with this one close behind. If you want to check out the older stuff, go for Heart of Darkness or Tunes of War. The main issue with this band has always been Botendahl's gritty throaty voice but I like his style; it gives this band some well-needed "dirtiness" in a world of flowery nut-pinching vocalists crystal clear production.

Besides, there's much worse vocalists out there (Mutz from Sacred Steel, for example...)

I think their 1995 release (Heart of Darkness) is the best place to start with Grave Digger... Their finest album too.

I also want to get to know them... I had "The Last Supper" on my a while back but it failed to engage me because of the vocals. Maybe I'll try "Tunes Of War" or "Heart Of Darkness", and then "work" my way up.

Are Witch Hunter and Knights of the Cross bad places to start?

Knights of the Cross may work though I think it's not up to Heart Of Darkness... Witch Hunter is the old Grave Digger sound so, yeah, it might work too but expect typical 80s German speed metal.

I didn't like either so I guess I'm not a Grave Digger fan.
