Yes!!! Finally, Kyuss has been reviewed on this site.

Agreed 95% with this review. The five percentage points I have to detract is due to your description of Asteroid. Yeah, it's a fairly repetitive song. But it has some amazing melodies and a really nice swampy atmosphere.

Kyuss is probably the only band I can think of that really falls on the thin line between hard rock and heavy metal. Even Alice In Chains, despite a conspicuous metal influence, were ultimately more of a hard rock band (and no, Queens Of The Stone Age is NOT a metal band, regardless of what some may tell you). But Kyuss basically belongs to neither genre. Instead, they're right at the dividing line between the two.

I'm glad that, for once, somebody didn't read too much into Kyuss's lyrics. Most of Kyuss's music is really not intended to be serious or deep (hence, John Garcia's "drunk hillbilly" voice). It's just fun, no-nonsense heavy guitar music.

I love Queens of the Stone age. I've actually heard of Kyuss too but never got around to checking it out, maybe I will now.

I really really like Queens of the Stone Age.

awesome band. i actually heard them for the first time from a bootleg tool cover of demon cleaner, loved the song so much i bought the album and loved it, the other albums are good aswell.

i dunno if the lead singer is still touring or making new albums, but i have two albums from a band called Hermano which is with the lead singer of kyus, and its pretty much on the same level, although kyuss is a bit more progressive

Ah Kyuss. Now that was a band that you could set your watch to.

Funny how the QOTSA thing shed a bit more of a spotlight on these guys, but they were far superior than the cash cow Josh Homme Project of these days in my view. I remember listening to Blues for the Red Sun for the first time all those years ago and couldn't believe the tracks flowing by, naturally it seemed, without any vocals (tracks 5-8ish) which for the grunge era was rare and extremely refreshing (I know instrumentals are common, but when everyone was producing miserable lyrics back in the day, it was quite daring).

Kyuss certainly rank as one of my favourite bands of all time and this album, despite not standing quite as tall as 'Blues..', was also a landmark album for me because of it's own unique style. They had the concept of splitting it into three parts, therefore they produced the CD in the means you could choose only 3 songs on the CD changer (I know it's 4, but that last tune isn't particulary serious!), therefore if you wanted to listen to a particular 'song' in those parts you either had to 'FF' the CD or listen to all of that section (17 minute average mins a part, remember) which never grated.

I'd say 'Blues for the Red Sun' is easier to listen to, but this is the more mature album (despite Licking Dos!). Like Tool do, no band has really ever sounded like this. Tunes seem familiar to other bands but the style is unique. I'd advise anyone to get the middle two Kyuss albums.

I can't get into this album, and I like a lot of bands that sound similar to it. It just makes me wish I was listening to one of them. How annoying

Speaking of modern Homme sideprojects, anyone into Eagles of Death Metal? I heard one song which was ok, but otherwise... I know they're not really DM, before someone says.

I saw them open for The Strokes a few years ago, and they were very underwhelming.

HOW?!?!?!? Im sorry I cant understand how you cant get into this album, there are very few albums I would consider perfect, and honestly I can not see anything wrong with this album. Everything about it is absolutely stunning. I never get tired of listening to this masterpiece. Sorry if Im a bit extreme, but this album is special to me. When I first bought it I knew I had never listened to it before in my life, but some parts just seemed so familiar to me, and so very natural, it was like a had listened to it in the womb, everything about it just made sense.

A classic. The base on Kyuss albums makes my whole house rattle. Awesome.
