"Rock And Roll Angel once again has similarities to Dio's solo material yet is probably the weakest track on the album"......

I don't know why a lot of people are slagging this track. I think it's one of the best tracks next to Fear and Bible Black. It's got a killer, grooving riff and is the track that is highlighted on the DVD where the band is shown recording it in the studio. Of course it will have Dio similarities but even before Dio went solo, Black Sabbath tracks like Country Girl and Lady Evil seemed out of place when compared to tracks like Neon Knights, Heaven and Hell or even Voodoo and Mob Rules. Those other songs had much more of a blues based feel, maybe something that he carried over from his Elf and Rainbow days.

Great track very Dio'ish, reminds me of his earlier ones like "Hey Angel".

When I first bought this, last week, I was amazed that a goupr of old men, old enough to be my grandfathers, could release something so awesome. One of my top albums of 09 so far.

+1

I didn't expect much from this and let's face it, they are old geezers but they can rock harder than some of the freaking idiotic kids into "metal" around here! Dio is in awesome shape vocally and some of the riffs are pretty awesome. Definitely in my top of 2009 as well.

Really guys, I don't see what's the big deal about it... It's not a bad album but it ain't that good either. Textbook old men's metal that seriously need to think about retiring.

Don't hate on old people because you're pushing elderly status yourself. This is a really good album, and no way an indication of musicians that need to think about retiring (especially since it's so close to inevitable anyway).

The problem with this one is that there are some downright amazing tunes on it--and "Bible Black" is a classic already--but then there are songs like "Rock And Roll Angel" and "Eating The Cannibals." Just good songs. They pale in comparison. If the whole album was of this caliber it wouldn't really be an issue, but there's no real range between great and okay, you got just those two.

So it can seem a bit disappointing, I guess. Either way, I enjoy every single track.

:dio:

What does that even mean?

I've only had a chance to listen to this once so far, but I like what I heard. Nothing earth shattering, but a solid effort.

Guess that makes me a fan of old men's metal. :D

It means that there's nothing remotely new and that it feels like they're applying the same old recipe they used 30 years ago only with less talent and strength.

That's just my opinion. It won't be on my top lists of 2009, but it's a good album. The best songs imo are Bible Black (the best by far), The Turn Of The Screw, Follow The Tears & Breaking Into Heaven.

I think it's great. It has riffs, melodies and bits to sing a long to. Just what metal is all about.

I agree. Perhaps I need to go out and buy some Bengay and Denture-Grip due to my fandom of "oldman metal".

Wouldn't the genre of "old man metal" pretty much consist of just BS and Maiden? lol

The difference between Lemmy and the others is Lemmy still drinks a bottle of bourbon a day, still puts stuff up his nose, still smokes like a chimney and still lives basically on the road... not to mention he has gotta be, what now, 65?
A bona-fide fucking rock legend, is Lemmy.
